Edifier is a popular speaker brand focused on delivering cost-effective, feature-rich audio gear. The company has a knack for building attention-grabbing products, not because of loud or esoteric designs, but because of how much value you get for your money.
Edifier recently revamped its full-size R2750DB bookshelf speaker and delivered a worthy successor. Featuring a generous three-way design and plenty of power, the R2750DB MKII is certainly worthy of your attention.

Build Quality
The R2750DB is large and heavy, with its components housed in a solid wood cabinet. The drivers are cleanly and securely mounted within the enclosure, while the front grilles are easy to install and remove.
The bottom of each R2750DB cabinet features pre-installed metal feet capped with vibration-absorbing material. The right speaker also includes a small, bright display that shows the current volume level and selected input.
The rear panel of the right R2750DB speaker houses the controls, signal inputs, power connection, and subwoofer output. Each input feels secure and free from wobble, while the control knobs are sturdy and tactile. Of the available HDMI eARC, Optical, Coaxial, and Line In connections, I ultimately chose HDMI eARC. The convenience of integrated power and volume control was simply too good to pass up.
The inclusion of a subwoofer output is welcome, although the line-level signal is too weak for use with most passive subwoofers or, more importantly, powered models that rely on an automatic sleep mode. Because the subwoofer output signal is so weak, it often fails to wake my subwoofer except during particularly loud scenes. Switching the subwoofer on manually solves the problem, but it is still a nuisance.
I would like the ability to adjust the strength of the subwoofer output, but that feature is not available on the R2750DB MKII.
Dedicated Crossover Controls
The rear panel of the R2750DB MKII’s right speaker houses not only its inputs and outputs, but also dedicated controls for adjusting the active crossover. The treble and bass can be adjusted in either direction, giving you the flexibility to tweak the R2750DB MKII’s sound signature without using the companion app.
This is a welcome feature that is often either omitted from speakers at this price point or poorly implemented. Edifier’s execution is solid, and turning the knobs produces meaningful changes in frequency response without compromising the system’s overall cohesion.
Listening
The R2750DB MKII features both an active crossover and onboard EQ through the Edifier companion app. For the following assessments, I used the “Reference” EQ preset in the app, with the rear knobs set to +1 treble and +1 bass.
Music sounds broad, clear, and nuanced through the R2750DB MKII’s reference-style tuning. The speaker’s upper register is clean and deliberate, resolving hi-hats, cymbals, and peaky brass instrumentation with care. The edges of each treble splash fade cleanly and distinctly, making excellent use of the dedicated tweeter.
The R2750DB MKII’s midrange is on the cooler side, presenting the heart of its performance in a matter-of-fact manner rather than with added attitude. Vocal clarity and instrumental layering are solid, with the speakers maintaining articulation even during dense, technically challenging tracks such as “RiP (duskCOre Remix)” by Bring Me the Horizon. Between the abundance of unique textures and heavily filtered vocals, the R2750DB MKII remains composed and layered, filling out the lower midrange without sounding muffled.
This is not a basshead speaker, and I recommend pairing it with an external subwoofer if you enjoy bass as much as I do. In stock form, the R2750DB MKII’s bass is deep, articulate, and well extended, but it cannot deliver the weight you may crave during bass drops in electronic music.
Outside of EDM, the R2750DB MKII feels more at home. It captures the punchy pulses of drum hits in rock and alternative tracks with clarity and precision, while also reproducing bass guitar with a reasonable degree of body. These elements are not completely harmonically developed, but they come close, especially for a pair of reference-style bookshelf speakers in the $500 range.
Gaming Performance
Speakers can be challenging to use in competitive gaming scenarios, but the R2750DB MKII performs well. By adjusting the EQ to boost the 1kHz to 3kHz range, I was able to create a strong sense of spatial placement for audio cues in FPS titles such as Call of Duty and Apex Legends. While it is not equivalent to my desktop setup with the venerable Audio-Technica ATH-ADX3000, the R2750DB MKII is sufficient for high-level play in public matches and even lower-tier ranked competition.
For other genres, particularly single-player and story-driven games, the R2750DB MKII feels right at home. Its clean, robust bass response and excellent upper-midrange clarity allow it to strike an effective balance between engagement and immersion.
I had a particularly enjoyable time playing through The Witcher 3 and Halo 3, as both titles feature outstanding sound design and well-crafted soundtracks. Whether hacking and slashing my way through hordes of bog hags or carefully creeping through massive ships infested with the Flood, the R2750DB MKII’s resolving drivers kept pace without introducing distortion or harshness.
TV and Movies
When watching TV and movies, my primary concern is dialogue clarity. Secondarily, I want to preserve the quality of the soundtrack. Thankfully, the R2750DB MKII excels at rendering dialogue clearly and distinctly while also delivering full-bodied soundtracks.
As I mentioned earlier, the R2750DB MKII’s musical presentation is clean and deep, allowing it to avoid the typical “reference trap” that many speakers fall into when used for movies and television.
Desktop Usage
The R2750DB MKII is enormous by desktop standards, but it is surprisingly well behaved. At lower volumes and from a closer listening position, the speakers maintain their cohesion and channel separation remarkably well.
Depending on your seating position and height, you may need a pair of small angled stands, but I was able to achieve strong results without them.
The Edifier App
Edifier’s companion app is well made, although somewhat bare-bones. I do not mind that, as putting every speaker feature behind an app is a great way to lose access once the software breaks or is no longer maintained.
That said, the available features depend on the specific device connected to the app. With the R2750DB MKII, you can update the firmware, switch inputs, select sound presets, and adjust the EQ. That is enough to be useful without adding unnecessary clutter or complexity.
As mentioned earlier, the R2750DB MKII does not allow you to adjust the subwoofer output level manually. The Edifier M90 includes this feature, so I would like to see it added here as well.
The Bottom Line
The Edifier R2750DB MKII delivers clear, spacious, and well-organized sound with enough connectivity to handle music, television, movies, and gaming without requiring additional electronics. Its three-way design maintains impressive cohesion at both desktop distances and across larger rooms, while the onboard tone controls and app-based EQ provide useful flexibility without making setup unnecessarily complicated.
It is best suited to listeners who prefer an articulate, neutral presentation and have enough space to position these very large bookshelf speakers properly. Bass enthusiasts and anyone looking for a warmer, fuller tonal balance should plan on adding a powered subwoofer. Unfortunately, the weak subwoofer output signal and lack of adjustable output level can prevent some models from waking automatically, and Edifier needs to address that through a firmware update.
For listeners with the space and a compatible subwoofer, the R2750DB MKII offers a lot of speaker for the money. Those working with a small desk, limited placement options, or an aversion to cooler reference-style tuning should look elsewhere.
