The network player category has become rather crowded of late with a wide range of options from Cambridge Audio, WiiM, NAD, Bluesound, Andover Audio, Naim, Hegel, Pro-Ject, and Denon.

A network streamer, also known as a network audio player or network music player, is a device that enables audio streaming over a network. It typically connects to your home network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, or a computer or a network-attached storage (NAS) drive and allows you to stream audio from a variety of sources, including online streaming services, local network storage, and mobile devices.

The Denon DNP-2000NE will have to be a very solid performer to justify its $1,600 asking price with so much competition.

Designed to work with the Denon PMA-1700NE Amplifier and DCD-1700NE CD Player, the DNP-2000NE incorporates advanced features to provide an immersive music experience.

Tip: You can use the DNP-2000NE with other branded amplifiers if you wish.

Denon HEOS Diagram

HEOS: This feature provides seamless music playback and allows users to stream music wirelessly from online services such as Spotify, Pandora, Tidal, and more. In addition, HEOS allows the DNP-2000NE to be integrated with other compatible wireless speakers and components in a wireless home audio setup. The is controllable via the HEOS app for Android and iOS

Digital Media File Support: MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, FLAC, ALAC, DSD

Audio Processing: Denon’s Ultra AL32 Processing Plus and DAC Master Clock design provides exceptional audio quality no matter what the source. The player also features a high-precision quad digital-to-analog converter configuration using ESS ES9018K2M Reference DAC chips which deliver clear and detailed sound.

Inputs: The DNP-2000NE provides Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Bluetooth. AirPlay 2 and DLNA also support wireless streaming of music from compatible devices. The player is also equipped with two optical and one coaxial digital input, as well as a USB-DAC input for direct connection to a USB flash drive or PC. The USB-DAC input supports Hi-Res audio up to DSD256 and 32-bit/384KHz PCM.

Tip: The DNP-2000NE does not have analog audio inputs. This means you can’t connect physical analog-only audio sources such as a turntable or audio cassette deck.

Outputs: The DNP-2000NE has both a digital optical and digital coaxial audio output as well as both RCA analog fixed and variable audio outputs. The outputs can be connected to compatible powered speakers, stereo amplifiers, receivers, or AVRs.

Tip: A front panel 1/4-inch headphone output is also provided.

HDMI-ARC: The DNP-2000NE also includes an HDMI-ARC connection. This allows users to receive audio from the TV as well as allow the player to display album art and song information on the TV’s screen. Volume can also be controlled via your TV or amplifier remote. This provides additional use flexibility.

Voice Control: The DNP-2000NE is Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri compatible; you can also operate the player using the provided IR remote control. 

Price & Availability

The Denon DNP-2000NE Network Player is available for order for $1,599 at Amazon and through authorized Denon retailers. Delivery should begin on May 26, 2023.
