Denon Debuts PMA-1700NE Integrated Amplifier

Denon’s latest integrated amp has a built-in MM/MC phono stage for vinyl playback, plus digital decoding of DSD and hi-res audio, but not MQA.

Integrated amplifiers provide source input connectivity and switching, varying degrees of audio decoding or processing, and provide power for running speakers. However, unlike a stereo or home theater receiver, an integrated amplifier doesn’t receive AM/FM radio transmissions and is typically limited to a two-channel stereo configuration. However, if you don’t need all the AV receiver frills, then a two-channel integrated amp might be the best choice as the center of your home audio system

With that in mind, Denon is on hand at the High-End Munich show with two new integrated amplifiers, the PMA-1700NE (70W x 2) and less expensive PMA-900HNE (50W x 2). The one spotlighted in this article is the PMA-1700NE.

The PMA-1700NE is the successor to the PMA-1600NE and the PMA-900HNE is the successor to the PMA-800NE.

Core Features

According to Denon, the  PMA-1700NE incorporates a vibration-resistant design featuring a six-block chassis configuration and direct mechanical ground. Gold-plated speaker terminals and analog source inputs aid in providing solid connectivity and prevent corrosion with long-term use.

Amplifier Type: UHC (Ultra High Current)-MOS Singled Ended Push-Pull

Power Output: 70 watts x 2 (8 ohms, 20hz to 20khz, .07% THD), 140 watts x 2 (4 ohms, 1 khz, .7% THD)

Audio Processing (Advanced AL32 Processing Plus): This feature supports high-resolution 384khz/32-bit input signals as well as provides the best possible sound quality from any source via its signal restoring algorithms.

USB DAC: This feature ensures optimum quality from digital audio sources coming in through the USB port, including suppressing jitter and additionally optimizing digital-to-analog conversion.

Digital Isolator: This feature helps to reduce digital noise from USB and Digital Optical/Coaxial connected sources.

TV Audio Standby: This feature enables the PMA-1700NE to detect an incoming digital signal source (such as from the digital optical feed from a TV) and automatically turn the amplifier on.

Source Direct: This feature allows you to optimize the quality of analog audio sources by turning off unneeded digital audio input and processing features of the PMA-1700NE to eliminate any interference that may affect analog audio quality.

EQ Settings: Bass, Treble, Midrange

(A/B) Speaker Terminals: The PMA-1700NE incorporates two-channel amplification, but you can connect two sets of speakers, and switch between them, or power all four at once.

Inputs: Phono (1 – with built-in MM and MC equalizer), RCA Line In (4), Optical (2), Coaxial (1), Headphone (1 – front panel with automatic speaker shut-off).

External Preamp Input Terminals: This feature allows you to connect an external preamp and use the PM-1700NE’s power amplifier section and bypass its own preamp functions.

Remote Control and front panel controls are provided.

In the real world where the fragile egos of the frAudiophilians can NOT exist, there is neither need or want for MQA, aka: “The FARCE”.

Why did I make this post? Because the gods begged me to do so. And I have a sense of righteous indentation…”n’ sheit. Nah. I just like this PMA-1700NE and am thrilled Denon chose not to make it…Here it comes…You know I am gonna do it…”Render Fluid”. 😉

Hope fully the world will get that one. 😉

    I am such a toad. 🙂
