Most people heading out the door with a pair of wireless headphones are probably not also wondering how they will entertain a small group of people later that afternoon. TDM thinks enough of them might be.
Priced at $249, the TDM Neo is a pair of wireless over-ear headphones that physically twists into a portable Bluetooth speaker, allowing listeners to move from private to shared listening without carrying two separate devices. TDM describes the Neo as the world’s first high-fidelity headphones capable of transforming into a portable speaker with a single twist.
The problem Neo is designed to solve is legitimate, if somewhat specific: travelers, students, commuters, and anyone moving between personal listening and small social gatherings no longer need to pack both headphones and a Bluetooth speaker. Whether a large number of consumers have been desperately waiting for those two products to become one is another question.

“At TDM, we believe the listening experience should be adaptable based on your needs and surroundings. Whether listening alone while traveling or commuting, or sharing music with friends, Neo instantly adapts to the moment without missing a beat,” said David Brailsford, co-founder of TDM. “After the incredible response we received since launching pre-orders earlier this year, weʼre excited to finally put Neo into customersʼ hands.”
The TDM Neo uses a patented twist mechanism built into the headband, allowing the earcups to rotate from headphone mode into speaker mode without requiring any additional hardware. Its four-driver system uses four 40mm drivers: two inward-facing drivers for personal listening and two outward-facing drivers for speaker playback.
In headphone mode, the inward-facing drivers work with passive noise isolation to deliver what TDM describes as balanced, clear sound. Twist the Neo into speaker mode and the outward-facing drivers take over, powered by 5 watts per side. TDM says the result is enough output to fill a small room, although that claim will depend heavily on room size, placement, and how much volume you actually expect from something that started life as a pair of headphones.

The Neo also includes a multi-array microphone system with environmental noise cancellation (ENC) designed to improve voice clarity during calls. The microphones work in both headphone and speaker modes, allowing users to take a private call with the Neo worn normally or use it as a speakerphone for conference calls.
TDM Neo: Key Features
Comfortable, Lightweight Design: The Neo uses an adjustable headband, optimized clamping force, dual-layer memory foam ear cushions, and a soft vegan leather headband covering. At 340 grams, it is relatively light considering the additional drivers, amplification, and battery required to support both headphone and speaker operation.
Long Battery Life and Fast Charging: TDM rates the Neo for more than 200 hours of playback in headphone modeand up to 16 hours in speaker mode. Charging is handled via USB Type-C, with a full charge taking approximately three hours. A five-minute quick charge can provide up to eight hours of headphone playback.
Bluetooth 6.0: The Neo supports Bluetooth 6.0 with Multipoint, allowing it to remain connected to more than one compatible device and switch between sources without requiring users to repeatedly disconnect and pair.
Physical Controls: Four physical buttons provide access to power, volume, and operating-mode controls. Users can also customize what happens when the earcups are twisted, with options including pausing playback, powering off the Neo, or switching between headphone and speaker modes.
Neo App: TDM’s free companion app, which is expected to be available for iOS and Android, adds Find My Device, Game Mode, separate customizable EQ settings for headphone and speaker modes, and power-management controls. The app also provides access to product and warranty information.

The Bottom Line
The TDM Neo solves a specific problem: carrying both wireless headphones and a portable Bluetooth speaker. For travelers, students, and commuters who regularly move between private and shared listening, that convenience could be genuinely useful.
TDM is not the first company to combine headphones and speakers. Similar products from HyperGear and Sharper Image already exist, but the Neo’s patented twist mechanism, four dedicated 40mm drivers, and separate amplification make it a more ambitious interpretation of the concept.
The tradeoff is that versatility appears to take priority over outright performance. Bluetooth 6.0 with Multipoint, AAC, SBC, and a 3.5mm input are included, but aptX, LDAC, and ANC are not listed.
At $249, the Neo makes the most sense for someone who truly wants one device to handle both personal and shared listening. Whether enough people have been waiting for headphones that can twist themselves into a portable speaker is the more interesting question.
