In 2016, Yamaha introduced the WXA-50 Wireless Streaming Amplifier and WXC-50 Wireless Streaming Preamplifier, two compact components designed to bring the company’s MusicCast platform to existing speakers and audio systems. A decade later, the timing certainly feels right for more modern replacements.
For 2026, Yamaha has announced the WXA-70A Compact Streaming Amplifier and WXC-70A Compact Streamer (Preamplifier), bringing the concept forward with updated streaming technology, modern TV connectivity, and features aimed at both conventional listeners and custom integration.
Both models are designed for listeners who want strong audio performance and streaming flexibility without adding another full-width component to the rack. Their compact form factors also make them easier to integrate into modern living spaces where a traditional amplifier or preamplifier may simply take up more room than anyone wants to surrender.

Extensive Streaming Support
Both units support AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, and are Roon Ready. Listeners can access music and audio content through the apps and services they already use, while Hi-Res Audio playback support helps preserve the quality of the original recording.
One App, Music Around the House
Since these are Yamaha audio products, the WXA-70A and WXC-70A incorporate MusicCast. The platform allows users to control playback, select sources, and manage compatible Yamaha products throughout the home from a single app. Users can stream different content in different rooms or group devices together for synchronized audio throughout the house.

For additional listening flexibility, both models incorporate HDMI eARC connectivity. This provides easy integration with compatible televisions, while enabling power and volume control through the TV remote.

YPAO Room Calibration
The WXA-70A and WXC-70A both feature Yamaha YPAO calibration for automatic room optimization, with a calibration microphone included. YPAO analyzes room acoustics and speaker characteristics, then adjusts playback parameters to help deliver more balanced and accurate sound.
YPAO R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) further improves imaging and clarity by compensating for early sound reflections, helping listeners achieve a more natural and immersive musical presentation.
Flexible Integration
Designed for both enthusiasts and professional installations, the WXA-70A and WXC-70A offer Control4 compatibility, web-based setup, IR input, 12V trigger support, and flexible connectivity options for easier integration into smart home environments.
WXA-70A vs. WXC-70A: What’s the Difference?
The main difference between the WXA-70A and WXC-70A is that the WXA-70A includes a built-in two-channel amplifier, allowing it to directly power passive speakers.
The WXC-70A does not include a built-in amplifier for passive speakers. However, a pair of self-powered speakers can be connected directly to its preamp outputs. As a streaming preamplifier, the WXC-70A can also serve as a source component, adding modern streaming capabilities to older stereo and home theater systems that do not already support them.
Pro Tip: Both models provide a subwoofer output for adding a powered subwoofer.

The Bottom Line
Yamaha was early to the compact streaming game with the WXA-50 and WXC-50 in 2016, but ten years is an eternity in network audio. Spotify is no longer enough, Hi-Res Audio has become far more important, HDMI eARC is increasingly expected, and brands such as WiiM, Bluesound, Cambridge Audio, and Marantz have turned what was once a relatively small category into a very crowded one.
That means the WXA-70A and WXC-70A are playing some catch-up, and neither introduces a feature that competitors have somehow overlooked. What makes them interesting is the combination. Yamaha brings MusicCast, YPAO R.S.C. room calibration with an included microphone, an ESS SABRE DAC, HDMI eARC, Roon Ready support, the major Connect streaming platforms, and extensive custom-installation features together in two compact components.
For existing Yamaha and MusicCast owners, or anyone building a professionally installed multi-room system, that integration may prove more valuable than simply buying the least expensive box with a streaming logo on it.
The harder sell is price. The WiiM Amp Ultra ($529) and WiiM Ultra ($329) substantially undercut Yamaha, while the Marantz MODEL M1 ($1,000) and Bluesound POWERNODE ($1,599) give the WXA-70A serious competition. On the streamer side, the Bluesound NODE ($849) and Cambridge Audio CXN100 SE ($1,099) sit directly in the WXC-70A’s neighborhood.
Yamaha therefore isn’t returning to an empty field; it is walking into one packed with very capable players. Ten years of inflation explains some of the increase over the old models, but not all of it. Yamaha still has to prove that the performance does.
Pricing & Availability
The Yamaha WXA-70A Compact Streaming Amplifier ($1,299.95 MSRP) and WXC-70A Compact Streamer Preamplifier ($999.95 MSRP) will be available in November 2026 through Yamaha and Authorized Dealers.
The WXA-70A and WXC-70A will make their public debut at CEDIA Expo 2026 in the Yamaha exhibit, booth #4023, from September 2-4 in Denver, Colorado.

These are priced too high especially in comparison to the Marantz m1 and Bluesound Node which, I think, would be their main competitors. Perhaps the street prices will be lower.
