Audiovector has added another serious floorstanding loudspeaker to its Arreté lineup, and no, “middle of the line” does not mean modest. The Danish brand, already known for models such as the R 10, R 8, R 6 Arreté, and the Trapeze Reimagined that we reviewed, has introduced the new R 5 Arreté at $24,500 per pair. It sits below the larger models in the range, but borrows key technology and design thinking from the flagship R 10 in a smaller, more room friendly package. This is Danish restraint, not Danish charity.
3.5-Way Design with Serious Bass Firepower
The R 5 Arreté uses a 3.5-way configuration, with its twin bass drivers assigned different roles rather than simply doubling up. One driver, labeled as the lower mid, covers the full bass range, while the second bass driver is dedicated to the deepest low frequencies. That is where the extra “.5” comes in. Two rear-facing ports provide additional low-frequency support, so placement will matter.

The bass driver and rear port system are designed to deliver what Audiovector describes as bass that is both “deep and powerful,” while the dedicated midrange driver is intended to keep the presentation “clean, fast, and transparent.” The goal is not just more low end for the sake of it, but bass with better control, speed, and less muddiness bleeding into the midrange. Because nobody spends $24,000 to hear the speaker trip over its own trousers.
Audiovector also uses its Accelerated Force Concept for the bass and midrange driver structure. The company says this helps the drivers start and stop with greater precision, reducing distortion and improving physical impact without slowing the presentation down. In practical terms, the engineering is intended to keep the bass from overwhelming the midrange, which matters when a speaker is trying to sound big without turning vocals into soup.
The R 5’s drivers also use titanium voice coils, along with carbon fiber and natural resin sandwich cone materialsinherited from the flagship R 10.
AMT Tweeter
Moving up top, the R 5 Arreté uses an AMT tweeter, inspired by Dr. Oskar Heil’s original Air Motion Transformer design. Audiovector integrates it with its Soundstage Enhancement Concept, which is designed to manage rear radiation and improve dispersion. The goal is cleaner, more open treble with better soundstage width and focus.

The R 5’s AMT tweeter covers a claimed 2,800 Hz to 53,000 Hz range, extending well beyond the limits of human hearing. That does not mean listeners will hear 53 kHz, but it can indicate a tweeter designed for wide bandwidth, low distortion, and cleaner behavior within the audible range. The goal is high-frequency detail, precise imaging, and a more open soundstage without turning the treble into a spotlight.
Controlled Damping
The R 5 Arreté also uses a flexible damping system designed to control cabinet resonance and manage how stored energy is released. The goal is a quieter, more stable enclosure that lets the drivers do the work without the cabinet adding its own commentary. The result should be a cleaner, calmer presentation with less unwanted coloration.
Damping feature settings include:
- Position 1: Optimized for use with transistor amplifiers with a medium damping factor.
- Position 2: Optimized for high-power transistor amplifiers with a high damping factor.
- Position 3: Optimized for tube amplifiers with a low damping factor.

Danish Craftsmanship
Each R 5 Arreté cabinet is hand built in Denmark with a narrow front baffle designed to reduce edge diffraction and support more precise imaging. The plinths, precision milled spikes, and integrated decoupling system are also intended to control unwanted resonance and improve mechanical stability.
The enclosure is heavily braced and constructed from high density hardwood fibreboard, combining rigidity with internal damping. Audiovector also uses mechanical grounding and precision driver mounting to reduce unwanted energy transfer between the cabinet, drivers, and supporting structure.
Just as important, the internal damping is optimized rather than overdone. The goal is to suppress cabinet resonance without choking dynamics. The narrow baffle further helps with smoother off axis response and sharper stereo focus, allowing the R 5 Arreté to disappear more effectively into the soundstage when properly positioned.
According to Renaissance Managing Director John Carroll: “We are delighted to launch the R5 Arreté. It’s a Danish masterclass in sound, styling, and design that really hits the sweet spot.“

The Bottom Line
The Audiovector R 5 Arreté is not the flagship, but that is also the point. At $24,500 per pair, it brings several technologies from the $160,000 R 10 Arreté into a smaller, more attainable floorstanding loudspeaker. “Attainable” is doing some heavy lifting, but after hearing so many six figure loudspeakers at AXPONA 2026, the R 5 almost looks restrained. Almost.
What makes the R 5 interesting is the combination of 3.5 way architecture, AMT tweeter with SEC, carbon fiber and natural resin sandwich cone materials, titanium voice coils, rear ported bass support, and a hand built Danish cabinet with serious resonance control. On paper, the 23 Hz to 53 kHz frequency response and 90 dB sensitivity suggest a speaker designed for scale, speed, and detail without requiring a nuclear reactor in the equipment rack.
Who is it for? Serious audiophiles with real rooms, real systems, and the budget to shop in the $20,000 to $30,000 loudspeaker category. The R 5 will have to compete with strong options from Wilson Audio, DALI, ATC, Dynaudio, and others, but based on our experience with Audiovector’s other models, this one belongs on the audition list. At this level, the spec sheet opens the door. The listening room decides whether it stays there.
