UE HYPERBOOM Bluetooth Speaker is Ready to Party

The $399 UE HYPERBOOM is a Bluetooth wireless speaker that is the biggest, loudest and bassiest from the Ultimate Ears BOOM lineup.

UE HYPERBOOM

Bigger, Louder & More Bass

Since the first time I heard the UE BOOM in 2014, I’ve always wondered why they didn’t make a bigger version. Eventually Ultimate Ears (UE) did a year later called MEGABOOM. Finally in 2020, there is an even larger speaker called HYPERBOOM that joins the lineup.

UE HYPERBOOM, MEGABOOM, BOOM Size Comparison
Height Comparison: UE BOOM (7″), UE MEGABOOM (9″), HYPERBOOM (14″)

UE HYPERBOOM is Bluetooth wireless speaker, more specifically a party speaker. Ultimate Ear’s says it’s their loudest and bassiest speaker yet, rocking triple the loudness and more than six times the bass of MEGABOOM 3, which already plays quite loud. In addition, HYPERBOOM claims 24-hours of battery life — the longest of any BOOM model.

Although not quite as durable as previous BOOM speakers, HYPERBOOM arrives with a splash proof IPX4 rating. That means it can withstand a few sprinkles and spills, but not a dunk in the pool. Its solid, sleek silhouette and unique diamond form is clad in a technical fabric engineered for sound and durability. The dimensional speckling on the fabric and curved edges give it a softer finish, designed to naturally fit in the home.

HYPERBOOM is supported on the BOOM app, available from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. On the app, you can set up favorite playlists, remotely turn the speaker on or off, adjust volume and more. You can also check that you have the latest speaker software and connect HYPERBOOM with any other BOOM, MEGABOOM or HYPERBOOM speakers using the PartyUp feature on the BOOM app. Plus, HYPERBOOM can switch between four different music devices with just a press of a button (see video above).

UE HYPERBOOM Inside speakers
2 x 4.5” (114 mm) woofers
2 x 1” (25 mm) tweeters
2 x 3.5” (89 mm) x 7.5” (190 mm) passive radiators

“Starting with beautifully rich sound, thumping bass and phenomenal dynamic range at any level, we added party-ready features like easy music sharing, adaptive EQ and up to 24 hours of battery life so you can rock any party, in any room, and have the perfect soundtrack playing throughout the night.”

Mindy Fournier, head of product management at Ultimate Ears.

One item of note for people craving voice connectivity. There’s no Alexa or Google Assistant functionality. If that’s a concern there are cousins to the UE wireless speaker family called BLAST and MEGABLAST. They’re essentially the same as BOOM and MEGABOOM with added Wi-Fi and built-in microphones so Alexa can listen and respond to voice commands without the need for a Bluetooth connected devices.
