KEF LS60 Wireless Loudspeaker Unveiled

The next step in the evolution of loudspeakers? The KEF LS60 Wireless Loudspeaker has arrived. And it’s really expensive.

When the KEF LS50 was first introduced, it caused an earthquake within the high-end audio industry; the loudspeaker category needed something that would shake designers out of their complacency and the LS50 accomplished that goal in a very significant way.

From a technical perspective, the LS50 reinvented the passive bookshelf or stand-mounted loudspeaker and KEF couldn’t make the award-winning loudspeaker fast enough.

Over time, that design has evolved significantly including wireless versions that have also become category disrupters.

The KEF LS60 is about to reinvent the wireless floor standing category and we suspect KEF won’t be able to meet the demand for it should the sound quality match its stunning industrial design.

KEF has been a renowned loudspeaker maker for 60 years with excellent products including the ultra high-end Blade

KEF is also branching out into the wireless speaker category, first with the LS50 II Wireless bookshelf speakers, and now with the announcement of the LS60 Wireless floor-standing speakers.

Tip: For those in the know, the LS60 was designed by Michael Young and the KEF Product Design Team

In addition to visual design, KEF’s goal is to provide music fans with the best possible music experience from wireless speakers.

The LS60 Wireless consists of two thin-profile floor-standing powered speakers. The “powered” designation means that they have built-in amplifiers. As a result, there is no need to connect the speakers to an additional amplifier, stereo, or home theater receiver.

The primary speaker includes all the physical source connections. The audio signals that are needed for the secondary speaker are transferred from the primary speaker via an Ethernet connection.

The LS60 Wireless has a total system power output of 1400 watts with separate amplifiers for the low end, midrange, and treble. System frequency response is 31 Hz to 24 kHz +/- 3dB.

There is also a subwoofer preamp output, should you desire to enhance deeper low-frequency performance (especially advisable for movie watching). You can use any powered subwoofer, but one option is the KEF KC62 space-saving compact sub

Music Streaming Sources

The LS60 is compatible with Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay 2, and Google Chromecast, as well as streaming directly from Spotify Connect and Tidal

Tip: The LS60 Wireless system is also Roon Ready.

KEF’s own Connect app (iOS, Android) also provides access to Amazon Music, Qobuz, Deezer, and TuneIn as well as providing source selection and EQ setting options.

The LS60 system supports Hi-Res audio (PCM up to 24bit/384kHz, DSD, and MQA).

Physical Source Connectivity

In addition to wireless connectivity and streaming, the LS60 system also includes HDMI eARC, Digital Optical/Coaxial, and RCA connections which allow direct connection to compatible TVs, CD/DVD/Blu-ray players, game consoles, and more.

The LS60 Wireless system can connect to a home network/internet via built-in WiFi or Ethernet cable.

KEF Speaker Technologies

To support the best possible listening experience, KEF includes several of its key speaker technologies including:

  • 4 x 5.25″ Uni-Core force-canceling drivers to maximize bass performance.

In addition, when listening to music via the LS60 Wireless system, before you even hear it, the KEF Music Integrity Engine uses signal processing algorithms to correct timing errors so that the Uni-Q drivers in the LS60 deliver clear imaging and tighter sound free of unwanted artifacts.

If these sound as good as they look (which they should), 10k CAD is a bargain!

My last chair time in front of KEF was the 104 or 104.2 in the 80’s when I was considering selling my Infinity 4.5’s. They didn’t do it for me and after considering other speakers in the same price range I thought my 4.5’s killed them all and kept them for another 20 years or so before changing to stats.

I do think that KEF is on a roll and the 50’s and their small sub should bring great sound in constrained spaces. For newer buyers these look like they have covered all the bases.

A beautiful looking set of speakers. Congrats to those scoring them.
