Feeling somewhat thunderstruck are we? Australian high-end audio brands don’t receive a lot of media coverage from the North American press, but we are always on the lookout for new products that will be available here in the near future.
Following the debut of its FR6 stand mount loudspeaker, Australia-based Dellichord has added the compact FR35 bookshelf monitor speaker and the modular FR20 3-way isobaric active speaker.
You can use a pair of FR35s as standalone bookshelf speakers, but when they are combined with the FR20, the FR2035 IsoActive System is created.
Like the FR6, the size of this system is designed for large sound from a relatively small box. The entire FR2035 System comes in at a total of 945mm (37.2 inches) high and 242mm (9.53 inches) wide, including spikes. The style of the system is interesting and unique while working in any interior room design.
FR2035 IsoActive Loudspeaker System
ISO: Isobaric configuration in the FR20 Bass Module. This model features twin 265mm (10″) bass drivers with large motor assemblies and relatively light paper hybrid cones. The first 10” driver is placed externally in the visible Octobaffle with the second directly behind. By combining the two drivers to operate as one isobaric unit (sometimes referred to as “compound’) the motor power doubles for these light cones, enabling bass grip and extension.
The sealed box alignment of the bass module allows the response to roll off gradually, delivering a sub-30Hz response in a typical listening environment.
ACTIVE: The FR20 Bass Module has built-in amplification (2 x 500 watts RMS). The FR20 bass module powers both the FR35 that is placed on top of the FR20. Crossover and time alignment duties are handled in DSP within the FR20.

The Result
The FR2035 is designed to deliver highly organic sound quality with real bass extension in combinations with an optimized top end. In keeping with the Dellichord tradition, designer Andrew Hutchison has placed musicality and ease of listening as key priorities. His foremost interest is creating a vehicle for music to sound “real”.
Andrew says that his goal was “to improve the performance of the BBC’s famed LS3/5a design from the early 70’s, but keep the magic that makes it such an entertainer and a wonderful musical performer.”
Dellichord’s FR35 Bookshelf Monitor is not only a component of the FR2035 IsoActive System, but also a standalone speaker in its own right. However, it allows customers to have the flexibility of upgrading to the full FR2035 IsoActive System in the future by simply adding the FR20 bass module.

Dellichord FR2035 (FR20 & FR35 Combined)
- Speaker Type: Active (FR20) and Passive (FR35)
- Connectivity: The FR20 “module” has an active amplifier built-in. High impedance input only through balanced (XLR) or unbalanced (RCA). 3 meter long connecting leads are supplied.
- Frequency Response (in-room): 23Hz – 22Khz
- Power Output: 2 x 250 W RMS into 4 Ohms. Both the FR20 and FR35 are 4-ohm speaker systems.
- Bass Drivers in FR20 Bass Module: 2 x 265mm (10″) in an isobaric configuration – rubber surround – natural fiber cone – very large magnet assembly. Visible driver mounted in our external OctoBaffle.
- Midrange in FR35 Bookshelf Monitor: 150mm (5.9 inches) cast aluminum framed, poly hybrid coned premium quality driver mounted on the acoustically isolated front baffle.
