Andover Audio SpinBase MAX Unveiled: Just Place Turntable Above And Listen

Andover has added larger woofers and more power to increase bass output and overall loudness for even better turntable listening.

Andover Audio got the message a number of years back when vinyl started taking off again — consumers getting into the format for the first time required the path of least resistance to make it work for them. Products like the SpinBase, SpinDeck, and Songbird network player offered a lot of performance for rather affordable prices.

Multiple members of the eCoustics team use their products at home and our reviews and features all share the same common denominator; excellent performance for the money.

The SpinDeck MAX has proven to be a strong performer in the entry-level turntable category and I now use it for all affordable cartridge reviews including the $190 Grado Labs Prestige Red3 that we just reviewed.

The turntable, which is manufactured in Germany, is designed to work with mid-tier phono pre-amplifiers, integrated amplifiers, and active/powered loudspeakers that include an internal phono pre-amplifier.

The SpinBase was always a logical resting place for the SpinDeck, but the SpinDeck MAX needed something better.

Building on the success of the popular, SpinBase powered speaker system, the world’s first speaker designed to support a turntable, Andover Audio has announced the SpinBase MAX (MSRP: $499).

Like the original, the new MAX offers improved performance and styling for vinyl enthusiasts seeking a compact yet high-quality speaker system to complete their turntable setup—without the complexity and space demands of extra speakers.

“SpinBase has been a tremendously successful product that our loyal customers love. But for many audio buffs, there is always an itch for ‘more’. SpinBase MAX scratches that itch by adding larger woofers and more power to increase bass output and overall loudness. We also added Bluetooth transmission so listeners could use their wireless headphones or earbuds, and a switchable high-pass filter that lets SpinBase MAX play even louder when a SpinSub is used with it.” – Bob Hazelwood, Director of Engineering.

Isogroove

Thanks to Andover’s patent-pending IsoGroove Technology, you can stack a turntable directly on SpinBase MAX for a compact, high performance, feedback-free listening experience. This technology eliminates feedback, resonances, or any other audio-disruptive noise that is commonly found in traditional vinyl playback systems.

Wireless

SpinBase MAX receives Bluetooth music from a smart device, just like the original SpinBase, with the new feature of transmitting turntable music to external speakers or headphones — very similar to how the Bluesound NODE and PowerNODE operate with Bluetooth loudspeakers and headphones.

Sound

SpinBase MAX packs a powerful sound system, positioning its performance between the SpinBase and Andover’s top-tier line of turntable music systems. With more wattage and larger woofers, you can expect cleaner music reproduction and deeper bass. Thanks to its clever single box chassis, SpinBase Max gives listeners the detail, separation, and wide soundstage traditionally produced in separate stereo speakers.
