THX Ltd., founded by George Lucas and now owned by Razer, is expanding its global certification and tuning operations with the launch of two new audio video laboratories in Shenzhen and Taipei. The facilities will deliver THX Certification and Tuned by THX services, support ongoing development of THX Spatial Audio technologies, and significantly expand the company’s testing capabilities in Asia.
The Shenzhen lab has also been designated by HDR10+ Technologies LLC as an Authorized Test Center for both HDR10+ and Eclipsa Audio, making it the first facility in China approved to certify devices for both formats and positioning THX at the center of next generation audio and video standards validation for consumer electronics manufacturers.
This expansion strengthens THX Ltd.’s role in global testing, tuning, and immersive audio and video infrastructure. The THX Shenzhen lab is positioned to support the growing ecosystem of HDR10+ enabled displays, projectors, monitors, and connected entertainment devices, while also addressing rising demand for the open Eclipsa Audio standard across TVs and sound systems.

Tuyen Pham, chief executive officer of THX Ltd., stated, “We are pleased to announce new THX facilities in Shenzhen and also in Taipei, expanding our ability to support global consumer electronics device manufacturers with leading edge THX high fidelity services and technologies. To further strengthen our offerings for device manufacturers, we have also added the expertise and achieved the approval to provide HDR10+ and Eclipsa Audio testing services. The THX Shenzhen lab, as the only Authorized Test Center in China for both HDR10+ and Eclipsa Audio, marks an important milestone and a natural extension to our commitment to advancing picture and sound quality standards and experiences for consumers worldwide.”
HDR10+ and Eclipsa Audio Testing in Shenzhen
HDR10+ builds on the baseline HDR10 format by adding dynamic metadata that adjusts brightness and contrast on a scene by scene, and even frame by frame, basis. That allows displays to better manage black levels and peak brightness in real time, delivering images that more closely reflect the creative intent of filmmakers rather than a one size fits all HDR profile.
With its new Shenzhen facility, THX Ltd. will run the full range of HDR10+ certification protocols, including distribution device compliance, display performance measurement, metadata processing validation, as well as HDR10+ ADVANCED and HDR10+ GAMING evaluations. This aligns with THX’s broader testing methodology, which involves hundreds of individual measurements and validation steps to ensure that certified devices meet strict standards for audio and video accuracy.
By combining THX’s rigorous testing approach with HDR10+’s dynamic metadata workflow and advanced luminance analysis, manufacturers are better positioned to deliver consistent performance across a wide range of content and viewing environments. The HDR10+ ecosystem continues to expand, with the introduction of HDR10+ ADVANCED in December 2025 further extending format support and certification requirements for next generation displays and devices.
“For years, our organization has been in the forefront of testing and certifying thousands of HDR10+ devices at a dozen locations globally to ensure the highest level of performance,” said Bill Mandel, co-manager of HDR10+ Technologies LLC. “Now, thanks to THX Ltd.’s recent announcement, our partners located throughout Asia will be able to have their latest HDR10+ and Eclipsa Audio devices evaluated at one location in the most timely and cost effective manner possible.”
THX Certification Standards

For more than 40 years, THX Certification has represented the gold standard for audio and visual excellence, with THX engineers performing hundreds of tests to validate quality, performance, and consistency in top entertainment products.
The new THX Shenzhen lab extends this mission by offering specialized testing and compliance services to meet both THX Certification standards, while also supporting HDR10+, the dynamic metadata HDR format delivering enhanced contrast, brightness optimization, and frame-by-frame tone mapping accuracy, and the emerging new open immersive audio standard from Eclipsa Audio.
THX Labs & Eclipsa Audio
The THX Shenzhen facility has also been designated as an Authorized Test Center for Eclipsa Audio, making THX Ltd.an officially recognized third party capable of conducting the full range of validation and compliance testing required for devices seeking Eclipsa Audio certification.
Eclipsa Audio, built on the Immersive Audio Model and Formats framework, is an open audio format designed to deliver immersive and adaptive sound across a wide range of devices and platforms. By allowing audio rendering to adjust based on playback environments and user preferences, it enables more flexible and consistent performance, whether through TVs, soundbars, or other connected entertainment systems.
“At Google, we are committed to advancing open standards that elevate the media experience for everyone, and Eclipsa Audio, based on the Immersive Audio Model and Formats, is a significant leap forward in bringing high fidelity, adaptive sound to the ecosystem,” said Matt Frost, director of product management at Google. “By enabling audio to intelligently adapt to diverse playback environments from TVs to soundbars, Eclipsa Audio ensures that users experience content exactly as the creators intended. We are thrilled to see THX Ltd. Shenzhen become an Authorized Test Center, providing the rigorous validation necessary to bring this next generation immersive audio technology to consumers worldwide.”
The Bottom Line
THX Ltd. expanding into Asia is a practical move that aligns certification with where most AV products are actually designed and built. By placing labs closer to the manufacturing pipeline, THX reduces turnaround time, lowers logistical hurdles, and makes it easier for brands to pursue certification without delays tied to overseas testing.
The inclusion of HDR10+ and Google’s Eclipsa Audio testing in Shenzhen raises the stakes. It positions THX as a centralized validation hub for both video and emerging immersive audio formats, which could help accelerate adoption, especially for Eclipsa Audio as it looks to gain broader industry support.
Manufacturers benefit from faster and more efficient certification workflows. Consumers benefit when companies choose to pursue certification, as the THX label still signals a consistent level of performance in a crowded and often confusing market.
There is one caveat. Certification is not free. Many products meet or even exceed THX standards without going through the program, which explains why the logo is not everywhere. What this expansion does is remove friction from the process. If brands were holding back because of time or cost tied to logistics, that excuse just got a lot weaker.
