Sony’s Most Affordable Wireless Noise-Canceling Headphones

Sony today introduced budget-priced wireless noise canceling over-ear headphones, model WH-CH710N for only $199. They feature Artificial Intelligence Noise Canceling (AINC) technology with dual sensors, new 30mm drivers and up to 35 hours of battery life. In addition, an Ambient Sound mode lets outside in if you want it.

Technology

Sony’s Artificial Intelligence Noise Cancelation (AINC) constantly analyzes environmental ambient sound components, and automatically selects the most effective noise canceling mode for users’ surroundings. Additionally, dual microphones feeding forwards and backwards mean the WH-CH710N headphones catch more ambient sounds than ever before.

Convenience

Near Field Communication (NFC™) lets users start streaming their music with just one touch while a built-in Li-ion battery allows for up to 35 hours of audio on a single charge. Plus, with quick charging, customers get 60 minutes of playback from just 10 minutes of charging.

Comfort

With an adjustable metal slider, users can make their headphones the perfect size, while soft, oval-shaped earpads aid in comfort for longer wear. The WH-CH710N earcups swivel flat for easier packing in a suitcase or backpack for travel.

Voice Enabled

The WH-CH710N offers the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa with an update. Install the Google Assistant app and change the assignment of the noise canceling button with Sony | Headphones Connect app, then press and hold the noise canceling button. For Amazon Alexa, install the Amazon Alexa app and change the assignment of the noise canceling button with Sony | Headphones Connect app, then just press the noise canceling button to get going.

Previous Model, WH-CH700N

For an even better deal, Sony’s previous generation model WH-CH700 is now selling for $129.99 at Amazon and Crutchfield. And they may actually sound better due to their larger driver size of 40mm. The newer WH-CH710N has a 30mm drive size. Other differences are with their charging ports and Bluetooth support. WH-CH700 supports Bluetooth 4.1 with micro-USB charging and WH-C710 supports Bluetooth 5.0 with USB-C charging. Battery life is the same at up to 35 hours.

Summary

Regardless which headphone model best meets your needs, it certainly appears Sony has introduced some fierce competition for over-ear wireless noise-cancelling headphone buyers considering a lower priced alternative to the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700, Bose QuietComfort 35 II or Beats Studio3.

Pricing & Availability

  • The Sony WH-CH710N wireless noise canceling headphones will be available April 2020 for $199.99 in black.
  • The Sony WH-CH700 wireless noise canceling headphones are now available for $129.99 at Amazon or Crutchfield in blue or black.
