New 3LCD Models Add 1080p Resolution, BRAVIA Internet Video Link Compatibility

Sony today unveiled its new line of newly-named BRAVIA™ 3LCD micro-display models, featuring cabinets that are about 22 percent slimmer than previous Sony Grand WEGA projection TV models.

They are designed to complement home decor, while providing the outstanding performance and picture quality that have made Sony’s micro-displays the leader of the category since its inception four years ago.

The new line features the 1920 x 1080p (progressive) 50-inch KDF-50E3000 and the 46-inch KDF-46E3000 models, along with the 1280 x 720p 37-inch KDF-37H1000 TV (all screen sizes measured diagonally). All of the new micro-displays are compatible with Sony’s BRAVIA™ Internet Video Link module that features the Technical Emmy award-winning Xross Media Bar (XMB)™ user interface for enhanced on-screen navigation.

“We continue to refine the style of our products to adapt to the modern home,” said Randy Waynick, senior vice president of the Home Products Division at Sony Electronics. “Our new micro-displays offer an incredible full HD picture in a slim, elegant cabinet that fits into any home’s design.”

The new E-series models offer greater flexibility to consumers who have limited room space for a large screen TV. The KDF-50E3000 measures in at 12.6 inches deep, while the KDF-46E3000 comes in at under 11.9 inches.

Just because the package is trim, doesn’t mean that the models skimp on advanced features. The sets include exclusive Sony picture performance technologies, such as BRAVIA Engine™ EX with DRC-MFv1.0 and Advanced Iris which helps to deliver superior contrast.

The sets also feature two HDMI inputs that support both 1080/60p and 24p frame rates. They process signals at a direct multiple of 24p to avoid artifacts, such as judder or flicker, when viewing next generation high-definition formats like Blu-ray disc. Other source connections include three component video inputs and a PC input via HDMI.

The models also feature Sony’s BRAVIA Theatre Sync, which integrates the operation of the television with external components connected via an HDMI cable. Through a simple one button click of the remote, users can quickly switch among content sources.

Designed for customers with TV cabinets or other tight spaces looking to upgrade to a larger widescreen HDTV, Sony’s new KDF-37H1000 model is a 1280 x 720 progressive micro-display that features a compact cabinet design. The model’s slim footprint allows it to fit into tight spots, such as those previously occupied by smaller 4:3 format CRT televisions. For example, the new micro-display model has nearly identical length and width measurements as Sony’s KV-32FS170 CRT television, but reduces depth by more than 10 inches. And at only 43 pounds, the set weighs in at almost a third less than the smaller CRT screen.

In addition to solving a long-standing stumbling block facing many households in the transition to big screen HDTV, the KDF-37H1000 unit also offers outstanding picture performance with Sony’s BRAVIA Engine EX with DRC-MFv1.0 and Advanced Iris. The TV also features two HDMI inputs, three HD component inputs and a PC input via HDMI, as well as BRAVIA Theatre Sync.

All three models will also support Sony’s recently introduced BRAVIA Internet Video Link module that provides direct access to Internet video programming, including high-definition content, from such providers as AOL, Yahoo! and Grouper, as well as Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony BMG Music. The optional module mounts on the back of a compatible Sony TV and connects directly to the Internet via an existing broadband Ethernet connection without the use of a PC. The feature accesses Internet video programs, music videos, movie trailers, user generated videos and RSS feeds — all without any additional charges.

At the center of the user experience is Sony’s XMB menu system. First featured in the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3 video game consoles, the XMB is an icon-based menu system that helps easily navigate on-screen menu selections. It is integral to the BRAVIA Internet Video Link, allowing easy navigation and playback functionality.

The KDF-50E3000 and KDF-46E3000 BRAVIA micro-displays will be available in July. Prices for each will be announced closer to the ship date. The KDF-37H1000 model ships in May for about $1,300. The BRAVIA Internet Video Link module will be available in July for about $300. All products will be offered direct from Sony at www.sonystyle.com and at Sony Style retail stores nationwide, as well as at authorized dealers around the country.
