Introducing JBLs On Air Control 2.4G Loudspeaker System: Combining High-Performance Sound With Wireless Speaker Convenience

8 January 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WOODBURY, NY — In a move that broadens the company’s product line into the wireless loudspeaker category, JBL today announced the introduction of its JBL On Air Control 2.4G high-performance wireless loudspeaker system.

The JBL On Air Control 2.4G includes a pair of compact two-way loudspeakers incorporating a wireless transceiver and amplifier, and a transmitter/receiver module. The system is ideal for a host of wireless speaker applications, including use as the surround channels in a multichannel home theater; as a second-room music system; and as a high-quality wireless speaker system for laptop and desktop computers, iPod and digital music players, personal DVD/CD players and other devices.

Paul Bente, president of the Home Products Division of the Harman Consumer Group, pointed out: “The On Air Control 2.4G combines the convenience of wireless loudspeakers with the clear, accurate sound that consumers expect from every JBL product. Compromising on performance in order to accommodate wireless operation was simply not an option for JBL, and the On Air Control 2.4G sets a new standard of sonic excellence in the wireless speaker market.”

The JBL On Air Control 2.4G transmitter/receiver module connects to an audio/video receiver via its RCA audio jacks, and includes a 3.5mm mini-jack adapter for connection to the stereo audio output of a laptop or desktop computer or a portable audio device. It utilizes the 2.4GHz frequency range to ensure interference-free transmission, and has an operating distance of up to 70 feet. The transmitter/receiver module can be used with up to two pairs of JBL On Air speakers.

Available in a black finish, the magnetically shielded speakers feature a 1/2-inch titanium-laminate dome tweeter, a 4-inch high-excursion woofer and 30 watts of built-in amplification for natural, richly detailed sound quality. The speakers are supplied with wall-mount brackets, and also include standard 1/4″-20 threaded inserts for use with third-party wall-mounting brackets.

Further enhancing the system’s versatility, the active speaker includes a mini-jack input for connection to a second local audio source, and a subwoofer output that enables the speakers to be used as part of a 2.1-channel satellite/subwoofer audio system. The JBL On Air Control 2.4G is supplied with a remote control with volume, input selection and mute functions.

The JBL On Air Control 2.4G wireless loudspeaker system will be available in February 2007 at a suggested retail price of $349. The Control 2.4G is the first product in the JBL On Air Series, with additional models planned.
