Since 2010, Estonia-based Estelon has been creating award-winning loudspeakers that have earned a rather substantial following in Europe and Asia. All of that state-of-the industrial design and engineering does not come without a rather high asking price. For 2023, Estelon has announced its latest offering, the AURA floorstanding loudspeakers.
Product Design
AURA loudspeakers are designed with both style and audio quality in mind. The speaker uses thermoformed proprietary composite materials in cabinet construction with advanced surface and interior geometry. The unique stylish shape, combined with internal chambers, results in ideal sound reproduction with 3-dimensional properties.
The base of the AURA is designed to create a natural low-pass filter. As Estelon describes it, the low-pass curve of their natural low-pass filter feature is deeper than an electrical filter, therefore the higher frequencies that are produced by the bass driver, at around 80Hz, are eliminated. The soundstage along with the depth and focus provide listeners with a distinctive sweet spot, regardless of their room listening position.
Tweeter
The 26mm (1-inch) Scan-Speak “Illuminator” Textile Dome tweeter has a symmetrical drive motor that supports optimal sound quality and linearity, at high or low volume levels.
The tweeter supports high-speed response and high resolution. The soft curves of the cabinet in combination with the tweeter waveguide, limit the negative reflective impact from the driver output.
The tweeter waveguide utilizes an elliptical shape and is fine-tuned to match the specific tweeter by Scan-Speak. The sound dispersion is more uniform, and when paired with the mid-woofer drivers the sound is pure and uninfluenced.
Mid-Woofer
The Aura incorporates a 130mm (5-inch) mid-woofer made by Satori. The mid-woofer uses an Egyptian Papyrus Cone to support transparency and smooth sound delivery. A vented aerodynamic cast aluminum chassis is intended to provide strength and low compression.
The driver features a soft, low-dampening rubber surround for the best transient response, and its neodymium motor system is optimized for low distortion. The silver lead wires are attached 180° apart for improved stability.
Woofer
The AURA incorporates a (250mm) 10-inch down-firing woofer in the base of the loudspeaker. The Faital-brand woofer is made to provide articulate, deep bass. A semi-pressed paper cone provides clean and tight low frequencies.
For added bass support a curved base plate enables the down-firing woofer to acoustically couple with the floor. The isolation feet/spikes are positioned in its corners at the correct distance providing stability for the loudspeaker. The base-plate design and driver elevation from the floor allows low frequencies to propagate properly through the provided opening, even when the speaker is placed on thick carpeting.
