Dongle DACs

Campfire Audio’s Portable DAC Wallet is Surprisingly Clever

This $59 portable DAC Wallet magnetically attaches to the back of iPhone to keep your dongle DAC and headphone cables in order.

Campfire Audio Portable DAC Wallet with Relay Dongle and IEMs

Campfire Audio isn’t slowing down for its 10th anniversary. The hits keep coming, and this time it’s all about making your portable listening life cleaner, smarter, and just a little more fun. First up: the Portable DAC Wallet, designed to keep your gear looking neat while delivering solid sound. Then there’s the Time Link cable, which not only adapts your earphones to a variety of devices but also sneaks in an in-line USB DAC.

And if you think that’s it, think again. Between the Campfire Audio Relay (read our review) and the Andromeda 10 IEMs, they’ve already dropped 9 new products this year alone. Guess wired IEMs and headphones still have some fight left in them after all.

Campfire Audio Portable DAC Wallet: Sleek, Magnetic, and Ready to Tame Your Pocket Tech

Leather meets practicality with the Campfire Audio Portable DAC Wallet, which magnetically snaps onto your iPhone and snugly holds your favorite portable DAC. The custom USB-C cable keeps things neat, avoiding the classic “dangling dongle” look and saving your sanity (and your pockets) from overlong, tensioned leads. Its low-profile design lines up connections perfectly, cutting down on port wear—because yes, your phone and DAC deserve better.

While it’s the natural partner for the Campfire Audio Relay DAC, it’s not picky: plenty of other DACs fit just fine. And for devices lacking magnetic backing, Campfire tosses in an optional adhesive ring—because even in 2025, some phones just can’t catch a break.

One Cable to Rule Them All: Campfire Audio Time Link

Switching between devices shouldn’t feel like a circus act, and with the Campfire Audio Time Link cable ($299), it doesn’t have to. From smartphone to laptop to digital audio player, this cable adapts your earphones in seconds. Six conductors—three pure copper, three silver-plated copper—deliver your signal cleanly into whichever swappable termination you choose, including a potent Cirrus Logic USB-C DAC that actually makes you wonder why other cables are still a mess.

The Cirrus Logic Master HiFi DAC built into the Time Link cable is a neat little package, handling 32-bit/384kHz PCM and even DSD256 playback—features that are honestly impressive for a cable-based DAC. Output tops out at 2 Vrms, with 30mW into 32Ω and a measly 5mW into 600Ω, so don’t expect it to drive more demanding headphones. It’s strictly for portable, moderately sensitive IEMs, and while the high-resolution PCM and DSD support is a nice touch, at $299, you’re paying a premium for convenience rather than raw power.

Time Link includes:

  • Six conductors (3 copper / 3 silver-plated copper)
  • Swappable terminations: 3.5mm single-ended, 4.4mm balanced, USB-C DAC

The Bottom Line

Campfire Audio’s 10th-anniversary accessories—the Portable DAC Wallet and Time Link cable—are clever, well-built solutions for keeping portable audio neat, adaptable, and future-proof. The DAC Wallet is a simple, stylish way to carry and protect your portable DAC while avoiding the dreaded dangling dongle, and it works with a wide range of devices. The Time Link cable is versatile, with swappable terminations and a high-resolution Cirrus Logic DAC built in, supporting 32-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD256.

The catch? That DAC isn’t powerful enough for demanding headphones, and $299 is a fair chunk for what’s essentially a convenience-focused cable. Meanwhile, the DAC Wallet is an easy $59 upgrade that feels like money well spent.

If you stick with sensitive IEMs or moderate loads, these products deliver on portability, quality, and flexibility. If you need serious power for larger headphones, you’ll want something more robust. For fans of Campfire Audio and those invested in a tidy, future-ready portable setup, this pair hits the sweet spot—clever, high-quality, and a little indulgent, just the way wired audio should be.

    The cable seems very overpriced.

I like the concept of the wallet but how does one fit this and a Dongle in their pocket? Seems rather unwieldy.

      Anton,

Will let you and the readers know. Review samples requested. You don’t have to use the supplied Dongle because it is detachable. I like the concept of the wallet because it keeps everything very neat.
