Sony just unveiled a new OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TV for the North American market. The BRAVIA 6 brings self-emissive OLED technology to a more affordable price point and more screen sizes – from 48 inches to 83 inches – while maintaining much of what makes Sony TVs special.
The BRAVIA 6 is built on the Google TV platform, so it has access to thousands of audio and video apps, including Sony Pictures Core, with its high quality Pure Stream feed that rivals the quality of Blu-ray and even 4K Blu-ray Disc. The BRAVIA 6 includes Google Gemini for AI enhanced search and content recommendations. It includes a built-in far-field microphone for full voice control. The microphone can be disabled if you’re concerned about privacy issues (in fact, it’s off by default on most Sony models).
The BRAVIA 6 also includes four HDMI 2.1 ports with support for 4K/120 Hz with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) for gaming. This is nice to see when Sony’s most recent flagship, the BRAVIA 9 II, only includes two HDMI 2.1 ports.

All pricing is MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Pricing). Actual street pricing may (probably will) be lower, particularly as we get closer to the winter holiday sales like Black Friday.
To reach a lower price point, there are a few differences between the BRAVIA 6 and step-up OLED TVs the BRAVIA 8 (2024 model) and BRAVIA 8 II (2025 model). We don’t have final measurements yet, but we expect the peak brightness will be a bit lower on the BRAVIA 6 compared to the step-up models so it may not be well suited for bright room viewing. The BRAVIA 6 also uses Sony’s 4K video processor, unlike the more advanced XR Processor found in the BRAVIA 8 and 8 II. Also, the BRAVIA 6 uses traditional speaker drivers (2 full-range drivers and 2 tweeters), as opposed to the Acoustic Surface Audio used in the BRAVIA 8 and 8 Mark II. The final difference is that the BRAVIA 6 does not offer CI (custom installation) Integration as found in the step-up models.
The BRAVIA 6 features self-emissive OLED technology for deep blacks and vibrant color and Triluminos Pro processing with Dolby Vision, HLG and HDR10 HDR decoding on board. For audio support, the BRAVIA 6 includes Dolby Atmos and even DTS:X immersive surround sound, both native decoding and passthrough for use with an external audio system.
The Sony BRAVIA 6 can, of course, be wall-mounted. It also comes with an adjustable height floor stand so it can be used with a soundbar or Sony’s BRAVIA Theater Trio sound system, without the speaker blocking the TV’s screen or IR remote sensor.

The Bottom Line
While many TV makers (including Sony) are promoting the benefits of the latest new LCD backlighting technology such as RGB backlighting and Super Quantum Dots, there are some things that OLED simply does better than even the best LCD TV. Because of their self-emissive individual pixels, OLED TVs can produce deeper blacks and higher perceived contrast as well as better screen uniformity and freedom from artifacts such as blooming or haloing, which we see on most LCD TVs. If you’re looking for a Sony OLED TV for a light controlled room, or looking for an affordable OLED in a variety of different screen sizes, the BRAVIA 6 should definitely be on your short list.
