Metaxas & Sins’ New Prinz Electrostatic Speakers Are About to Get A Serious Low End Boost From SVS

SVS Chosen as Official Subwoofer Partner of Reel Sound Distribution for Metaxas & Sins New Electrostatic Speakers.

Reel Sound Distribution’s CEO, Jeff Garshon, has been a family friend for over 50 years and very graciously hosted me in his home in the Summer of 2023 so that I could drink the Kool-Aid and have an in-depth listen to a portion of the Metaxas & Sins lineup which includes a state-of-the-art R2R deck and one of the craziest looking integrated amplifiers I have ever seen.

Garshon’s basement home theater and music listening room utilises a pair of MartinLogan electrostatic loudspeakers which was a great place for me to start because I have owned 5 pairs of their loudspeakers over the past 30 years and understand their strengths and limitations — especially in the bass range.

The integration of a woofer with an electrostatic panel is extremely complicated and very few get it right.

Adding a subwoofer might seem like the logical course of action but not all subwoofers are created equal.

Can the Ohio-based manufacturer and distributor (Reel Sound is based out of Columbus) create a synergistic match made in heaven?

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

No Disintegration!

SVS has been chosen as the official subwoofer partner of Reel Sound Distribution for high-end audio manufacturer Metaxas & Sins, bringing low-frequency support for the new Prinz electrostatic speaker model.

Metaxas & Sins creates loudspeakers and other audio gear that straddle the line between technology and art with striking designs they refer to as “high-end audio sculptures.”

Founded by prolific artist, recording engineer, and audio designer Kostas Metaxas, each speaker is built by hand in the Netherlands. The company’s vision is to introduce decorative objects with remarkable personality and disruptive aesthetics while providing a sonic experience that makes the user feel as if they are attending a live concert.

“Kostas has not previously partnered his speakers with a subwoofer due to the inherent challenges of matching panel to sub. SVS subwoofer’s superior performance, now allows us to offer a pairing that will please even the most critical of audiophiles. The result is an electrostatic speaker system of unparalleled performance and beauty,” said Jeff Garshon, President of Reel Sound Distribution, the exclusive distributor of Metaxas & Sins products in the United States.

As part of the partnership, custom equalization presets will be created for specific SVS subwoofers to seamlessly blend added low-frequency output with Metaxas & Sins new speakers. The compact SVS 3000 Micro subwoofer ($899) will be paired with the Prinz at $22,000.

Electrostatic speakers excel in their ability to render pristine sonic fidelity and start-and-stop-on-a-dime transient response which requires highly capable subwoofers. SVS subwoofers, especially sealed cabinet models like the 3000 Micro are renowned for delivering accurate output that extends below the threshold of human audibility while remaining controlled and musical. The unprecedented DSP power in SVS subwoofers also enables precise tuning and advanced control for an unmatched listening experience.

SVS President Gary Yacoubian said, “SVS subwoofers have earned the respect of hifi reviewers and audiophiles for their ability to render pinpoint accurate response at the lowest frequencies, while seamlessly blending with any kind of loudspeaker. Metaxas & Sins speakers are truly works of art sonically and visually, and this partnership further validates SVS as a premier audio brand.”

Customers can experience the distinctive SVS and Metaxas & Sins pairing by contacting Reel Sound Distribution for an audition or to be directed to the nearest retail partner.

Garshon continued, “Kostas Metaxas has been designing state-of-the-art audio equipment for over 40 years, and his latest electrostatic speaker series is an evolution and complete rethinking of his renowned Emperor electrostatic speakers originally introduced nearly 30 years ago. They benefit from the most current CNC manufacturing processes and higher-performance electronic components to create a more efficient and transparent result. The modular design allows customers to upgrade any model easily to the next level of performance.”

The Bottom Line

The integration of a subwoofer and electrostatic panel requires a lot of work; and a rather sophisticated crossover and capable woofer to make it sound like it’s coming from the same loudspeaker.

SVS has proven more than a few times that it knows how to design a state-of-the-art subwoofer that can be easily integrated into a two-channel or home theater system and offer a wide range of set-up options to deal with all kinds of rooms.

Metaxas & Sins creates some of the most beautiful and controversial audio components and loudspeakers (and headphones) in the world — and that’s before you even sit down and listen to them.

Having experienced their products in the home setting already — it will be very interesting to see how this all plays out because a lot of brands have tried and failed to make this work.

We suspect they already know it works extremely well.
