SVS is well-known for its subwoofers and speakers, but it also offers a selection of connectivity solutions under its SoundPath label that makes setting up your audio and home theater systems easier.

The latest connection solution from the SVS SoundPath line is the Speaker Level Subwoofer Adapter.

What is the SVS SoundPath Speaker Level Sub Adapter?

Many integrated amplifiers and legacy stereo receivers lack line-level RCA outputs for a subwoofer. This means that it is ordinarily not possible to connect a powered subwoofer to older audio systems.

This adapter converts speaker-level outputs to RCA line-level outputs for safe, pristine signal transfer to a powered subwoofer.

The SVS SoundPath Speaker Level Subwoofer Adapter solves this problem by stepping down the voltage from a speaker-level connection to RCA line-level voltage. The supports a safe connection with no loss of fidelity and no additional power drawn from the amplifier for use with a subwoofer.

How To Use The Subwoofer Adapter

For connection from the speaker outputs of a receiver or amplifier to the inputs on the Subwoofer Adapter, 24K gold-plated 5-way speaker-level binding posts that can accommodate bare-wire, spade, or banana connectors are included.

Tip: SVS SoundPath Bi-wire Speaker Cable can be used for an easy connection to both the loudspeaker amplifier and the adapter as well.

From the Adapter to the Subwoofer, 24K gold-plated stereo RCA line-level output jacks are provided to ensure a secure connection to the line-level inputs of the powered subwoofer

Tip: SVS SoundPath RCA Subwoofer Cables can be used between the Adapter and the powered subwoofer you are connecting to.

Once all is connected, users can then adjust the low pass filter/crossover and other settings on the subwoofer for optimal performance with their legacy system.

Tech Note: According to SVS, the Subwoofer Adapter can pass full range signal from 10Hz – 80kHz (+/-0.01dB) – although subwoofers rarely need anything higher than about 300Hz.

What’s Inside

Internal components of the Subwoofer Adapter include premium-grade narrow-tolerance resistors and wide-trace PCBs for high-current and extreme power handling. This is designed to yield wide bandwidth and ultra-low distortion for pristine signal transfer, pinpoint accuracy, and compatibility with high-end audio systems.

From Gary Yacoubian, President, SVS: “The SVS SoundPath Speaker Level Subwoofer Adapter is a true problem solver for audio fans, and like with all SVS accessories, it does it in the most high-fidelity way possible,…Vintage audio gear is experiencing a comeback and we’ve seen a big uptick in demand for people wanting to connect SVS subwoofers to legacy components. We went through an incredibly rigorous design process to ensure performance will exceed the expectations of discerning audiophiles and HiFi enthusiasts.”

Initial Impressions

For those who own older amplifiers or receivers and would like to add a powered subwoofer to their setup, the SVS SoundPath Speaker Level Subwoofer Adapter is one way to do it. If your receiver or amp has A/B speaker connections and you set it to run the A and B sides at the same time, you can use the A side to run your main speakers and use your B side to connect the Subwoofer Adapter – which, in turn, can connect to a powered subwoofer. Just like that you can turn your old two-channel stereo system into a 2.1 channel setup.

A very practical product and it is not outrageously expensive.
