Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus and Sub Unveiled: Slimmer & More Affordable

Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 from only two boxes. The new Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus and AMBEO Sub combo costs $2,200.

Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus and AMBEO Sub Lifestyle

When the original Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar was released in 2019, it was one of the most expensive soundbars at the time for $2,499. Now it’s been reduced to $1,999 and renamed the AMBEO Soundbar Max.

Part of the problem with the original AMBEO Soundbar was that it was too tall to fit in front of most thin-bezel flat-panel 4K TVs. With today’s introduction of the AMBEO Soundbar Plus and AMBEO Sub that problem is now solved.

AMBEO Soundbar Plus

Described as the world’s first 7.1.4 standalone soundbar, the Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus is more compact while maintaining support for immersive 3D sound including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, 360 Reality Audio and MPEG-H Audio. Users can even upmix stereo and 5.1 content to create more immersive 3D sound experiences.

AMBEO Plus implements 9 internal speakers, which have the unique ability to project sound from any corner of the room. Its self-calibration feature reads a room’s acoustic properties and then positions seven virtual speakers around the listener, plus four more overhead. This allows users to enjoy a spaciousness movie theater experience at home without the fuss of extra cables or satellite speakers.

Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus Exploded

AMBEO Plus is driven by the same groundbreaking 3D sound — developed in collaboration with the world leader in audio research and development, the Fraunhofer-Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS — as the AMBEO Soundbar Max.

The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus uses the AMBEO|OS platform. This enables multiple music streaming services, such as Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, and works with a Google Assistant-enabled device with Chromecast built-in. Furthermore, it provides seamless integration with Alexa and Apple’s Siri.

Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus and AMBEO Sub Lifestyle

AMBEO Sub

The new AMBEO Sub is said to deliver deep bass down to 27Hz thanks to its 8-inch high-end proprietary woofer, paired with a 350W Class D amplifier in a sealed enclosure.

The Sennheiser AMBEO Sub includes wireless connectivity so it can be placed around the room without the need for unsightly cables. Meanwhile, its multi-sub array technology allows users to connect up to four subwoofers to scale bass performance and calibrate them individually for optimal sound.

Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus App

The AMBEO Sub’s advanced self-calibration and its built-in far-field microphone allow the device to precisely learn the acoustics of your room and adjust to every environment for a unique sound experience, while its intuitive Smart Control App guarantees a smooth user experience that makes the most out of both AMBEO Sub and AMBEO Soundbar Plus.

Note: AMBEO Sub’s wireless function and the built-in calibration is only compatible with the new Soundbar Plus. However, it can be connected to the AMBEO Soundbar Max via wired sub-in.
