Samsung QN800C Neo QLED 8K TV

Every year, Samsung has a significant presence at CES and is noted for having the largest both in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Central Hall and 2023 is no exception. This time around, Samsung is unveiling its latest TVs and also highlighting new or updated features. Here is an overview of what they have announced going into CES.

Samsung CX Micro LED TV

Built on the foundation of its first available Micro LED Display, the Wall, the 2023 CX comes in at (76 inches) and will be one of the most affordable Micro LED displays yet. However, what Samsung ends up seeing as an affordable price is relative, and you can be sure that it will still be out of reach for most consumers.

Tip: Samsung has also confirmed that in addition to the 76-inch CX, it will be offering Micro LED TVs in the 50, 63, 89, 101, 114, and 140-inch screen sizes in 2023.

The pixel-level LEDs that are the core of Micro LED display technology are forged from sapphires for intense contrast and incredible detail. The Micro LED CX forecasts a brighter, more luxurious future for consumer televisions.

Tip: Samsung doesn’t state if the CX (or other teased models) has 1080p, 4K UHD, or 8K UHD display resolution.

The CX also supports 20-bit black detail, 240Hz variable refresh rate, and 2-nanosecond response time solidifying the 76-inch Micro LED CX’s display as the gold standard of picture quality, no matter what you’re watching or the game you are playing.

The Micro CX features an exterior design with a 99.9% screen-to-body ratio. in other words, you won’t notice the bezel – this TV is all-screen!

Tip: Samsung claims the CX is the first Micro LED TV without the need for professional installation.

Samsung Neo QLED 8K

2023 Samsung QN900C Neo QLED 8K TV

Samsung continues its push to mainstream 8K TVs for 2023.

The QN900C Neo QLED 8K TV  boasts a display with high-brightness 8K picture quality in a frame so thin its edges are barely visible. Via precision AI upscaling, the QN900C is able to provide the best possible picture from any input resolution.

Pairing the picture capabilities with newly developed hidden speakers and you can experience a more cinematic sound experience (so Samsung claims).

Other technology features include:

  • Quantum Matrix Technology Ultimate delivers 4,000 nit brightness with 14-bit contrast.
  • 8K Real Depth Enhancer Pro improves contrast ratio by focusing the backlight on ~1,000 local areas – up from 36 in 2022’s iteration – to deliver clearer, more realistic depth perception.
  • 8K Sound Remastering solves the mismatch between theatrically mastered audio and home listening environments.

Samsung Neo QLED 4K

The 2023 4K UHD flagship QN95C reimagines Samsung’s Neo QLED line to deliver superior audiovisual performance in a very thin, harmoniously designed form factor. New dimming and 14-bit processing innovations provide improved brightness and grayscale control to accurately render luminance and extreme details across the screen. An ultra-slim power board eliminates the QN95C’s need for an external connection box – and optimizes energy efficiency – while shrinking the bezel to a thickness of less than 20mm.

The QN95C also includes an easily detachable, privacy-focused video conferencing and workout-assisting camera, and integrates top-firing speakers to produce cinematic Dolby Atmos audio without requiring a soundbar.

All 2023 Neo QLED 4K TVs will use deep learning AI to analyze content to convert any content to brighter, clearer, and vibrant HDR – even if the source material is SDR (Auto HDR Remastering).

Samsung OLED (QD-OLED)

The second generation Samsung S95C QD-OLED 4K UHD TV builds on the foundation of 2022’s S95B.

2023 Samsung S95C QD-OLED TV

Combining Quantum dot and OLED technology, the S95C’s individually self-lit pixels eliminate the need for LED backlighting and LCD display layer, increasing brightness, and color accuracy.

The custom-designed Neural Quantum Processor 4K enables the S95C to deliver extended brightness, vivid color mapping, and smart 4K upscaling with AI detail restoration.

The S95C also incorporates a 0.1-millisecond response time and up to 144Hz refresh rate which eliminates ghosting and offers calibration and visualization options not found on other TVs. The S95C also includes cloud gaming support with Gaming Hub for NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Microsoft Xbox, Utomik, and Amazon Luna.

The SC95C is less than 0.5 inches thick but is somehow able to have room for a 70W 4.2.2 channel sound system with upfiring speakers for Dolby Atmos.

Samsung has also confirmed that in addition to the QD-OLED TV 55 and 65-inch screen sizes offered in 2022, in 2023 there will also be a 77-inch, and possibly a smaller 48-inch screen size.

Tip: Samsung has stated that there will be two QD-OLED TV model series, the S90C which will be basically a rebrand of the 2022’s S95B, and the S95C with the enhanced features discussed above.

The Frame TV

Samsung originally developed its Lifestyle TV line to meet the needs of consumers who wish to blend the TV into their home décor. The lifestyle line has evolved to include TVs designed around adding value based on different environments and specific needs. The Frame is one of Samsung’s Lifestyle TVs and its latest models are on display at the 2023 CES.

The Frame incorporates an anti-reflective matte display that makes the art look more realistic. New metal bezels and more realistic wood finishes are offered for greater personalization. Additionally, an optional automatic rotating mount will allow for landscape or portrait art display.

Advanced TV Features

In addition to TV and projection display hardware, Samsung is also presenting new or updated features for its TVs and projectors including the following:

Smart Hub: Samsung’s Tizen-powered Smart Hub is included on all smart TV models which provides access to all major streaming services as well as additional streaming apps that can be installed via the Samsung App Store. In addition, Samsung TV Plus is also included, providing direct access to almost 250 add-supported channels of news, sports, and entertainment content.

Gaming Hub: With Gaming Hub, players can play, pause, leave, and pick up exactly where they left off with access to more than 1,000 cloud-based games (by next spring) – with or without a console.

For gamers who own an Xbox or PlayStation, simply connect it via one of the HDMI 2.1 ports and Gaming Hub will automatically recognize and add to the Gaming Hub Dashboard.

The Gaming Hub includes a recommendation feature that is based on what users play and lets them listen to their favorite tunes while playing. With partners like Xbox, Amazon Luna, NVIDIA  GeForce Now, In 4K, Utomik, and with Antsream and Blackout coming soon, Gaming Hub offers the widest range of online gaming options.

The Art Store: Samsung’s Art Store provides access to over 2,500 pieces curated by world-class galleries. The Art Store allows users to customize the screen to their personal tastes.

The Art Store 2.0 will feature a more user-friendly on-screen experience. Samsung has also partnered with NFT marketplaces to deliver art content in new ways. The new NFT platform delivers a diverse selection of carefully curated NFTs and the new UI even features events promoted by Samsung partners and features more than 1,000 artists.

Tip: If you have an 8K model, Samsung has partnered with Savage, a leading provider to deliver art in stunning 8K resolution.

Relumino Mode: This is the first technology that empowers people with low vision to enjoy their favorite shows, movies, and games without needing wearable hardware. With the click of a remote, Relumino (Latin for “return the light”) enables TVs to use Samsung-developed artificial intelligence to dynamically outline the edges of on-screen elements and rebalance colors so that anyone can view people, objects, and text better.

Health Monitor: This is Samsung’s first TV-based health monitoring service. This feature will be included in its Neo QLED, QD-OLED TVs, and Smart Monitors. In-home health monitoring technology works in combination with an optional attachable camera to offer users the ability to monitor their own health without invasive physical diagnostics.

Samsung’s camera analyzes five key vital signs, including heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and stress index. It does this by using remote photoplethysmography (rPPG), an intelligent computer vision technology that assesses vital signs by detecting changes in facial skin color caused by heartbeats. The system is opt-in, contactless, accurate, and easy to use.

Samsung Telemedicine: Samsung Telemedicine is a new application developed for its smart TVs to make big-screen telemedicine appointments simple for those seeking at-home medical care.

Users can select from a list of symptoms and indicate how long they’ve been present, and the app will show relevant available doctors. A doctor will generally connect within 60 seconds, then conduct an exam through video conferencing via the app and with devices such as a Samsung Galaxy Watch or other devices.

Once an exam is complete, users can rate their experience, schedule a follow-up, or fill a prescription remotely and have it delivered via the on-screen app.

Chat Together: This is the world’s first TV-embedded platform that allows real-time communications while watching live TV. It allows viewers to talk with people using the TV in real time. The companion mobile app, available on both Android and iOS, allows users to quickly respond to both TV and mobile platforms using a single interface. The whole connection process is done by downloading the mobile app and tapping the BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) pop-up.

More To Come

Information on additional TV models may be forthcoming during CES. Availability and pricing are still forthcoming – usually announced sometime after CES in early Spring. Check back for any additional updates to this story.
