Russound Turbocharges SMS3 Servers With Powerful New Features

DENVER, CO, September 4, 2007 — Russound, the #1 brand in multiroom audio, has updated its SMS3 Smart Media Servers with software enhancements that make the award-winning products even easier to set up and enjoy. The new Version 3.0 of the Russound software provides installers with exciting new usability options that let them better tailor the media server to the client’s wishes and to specific installation conditions.

“We’re always listening to our dealers when we design and refine our products, and the refinements on the SMS3 were developed from their feedback,” says Russound Senior Product Manager Andy Lewis. “As new technologies have become available, we’ve incorporated them with installers specifically in mind, and we think they’ll find the enhancements we’ve built into the new Version 3.0 extremely useful.”

Among the many refinements throughout the Version 3.0 software is a revised media player that intelligently raises and lowers song volumes, and allows seamless transitions and crossfades, as well as faster transitions when skipping from one song to another.

The SMS3 servers now also feature a System Messaging function, which allows messages to be sent out informing users about available updates and providing crucial diagnostic information before issues become serious. This helps pre-empt any imminent issues surrounding the hard drive, library restoration and backup, as well as other system functions and components. Installers also can now open a Support Tunnel directly from the main user interface in the Configuration Menu without having to go to a diagnostics page, and a new Blanker Display feature can be configured to show 1, 2 or all 3 streams possible on the SMS3. This allows those systems not using all available streams to shut off unnecessary display data.

The new SMS3 software also features numerous usability enhancements that further solidify the SMS3’s reputation as a media server for music lovers. There are improved music selection capabilities where users can now view and search Artists, Albums or Songs indiscriminately within a genre. The Version 3.0 software now also tags artists for each song on a compilation album, when files are ripped to the SMS3, so that these cuts show up appropriately in the artist’s song list. Users can also now duplicate Themes without having to manually re-create them, and search for albums without cover art from the Review menu, so that they can be updated with graphics

The new Version 3.0 software for the SMS3 media servers is currently available for download by Russound dealers.
