Shared Technologies

Radiant Acoustics Bookshelf Speaker Cutaway Features

The CLARITY series isn’t just another pair of pretty cabinets in the high-end bookshelf crowd. Both the 6.2 and 4.2 models share a core set of technologies designed to deliver serious sonic performance — and to make Radiant Acoustics stand out in an already competitive category. Here’s what they have in common:

Purifi USHINDI Woofers

Both CLARITY models feature cutting-edge woofer technology sourced from PURIFI Audio — specifically, Radiant Acoustics uses PURIFI’s flagship USHINDI woofers, a high-performance design rarely seen in compact loudspeakers. These drivers are engineered to deliver low distortion, high efficiency, and deep bass that rivals much larger woofer designs.

radiant-clarity-4-2-woofer

What makes the USHINDI woofers special is their ability to extend lower in frequency without introducing audible distortion, all while preserving midrange clarity and precision. That means you get impactful low-end performance without sacrificing the detail and tonal accuracy needed for serious listening.

These woofers incorporate several patented PURIFI technologies, including the PureDrive ultra-linear motor systemNeutralSurround suspension, and a mathematically optimized cone geometry — all working together to eliminate nonlinearities and maintain control at all volumes. It’s the kind of engineering you’d expect in far more expensive loudspeakers, now packed into a bookshelf format.

  • Clarity 6.2 uses the PTT6.5X04-NLA-10 (6.5-inch) woofer
  • Clarity 4.2 uses the PTT4.0X04-NLC-02 (4-inch) woofer

AMT Tweeters

radiant-amt-tweeter

The CLARITY series also features a custom-designed AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter that brings serious high-frequency performance to the table. Built by DALI specifically for Radiant Acoustics, this oversized AMT design uses an ultra-thin folded diaphragm with a large surface area to deliver high output, precise detail, and extended treble without harshness.

Compared to conventional dome tweeters, this AMT is a different beast entirely. It’s four times more efficient than a typical dome and significantly more powerful than smaller AMTs used in competing designs. That extra headroom means lower distortion, reduced risk of overload, and none of the thermal compression that can plague tweeters under dynamic load.

To further boost performance, the tweeter uses a dual-magnet symmetrical configuration, creating a stronger and more stable magnetic field than standard single-magnet AMTs. This helps maintain clarity and linearity across the entire frequency range.

Most importantly, the AMT’s voicing and dynamics are perfectly matched to the PURIFI USHINDI woofer, allowing the CLARITY speakers to operate as a cohesive, full-range system. Fast, clean, and efficient — the tweeter’s design lets the speaker take full advantage of the low-end muscle and midrange finesse the USHINDI drivers are known for.

High Frequency Beam Extension Waveguide

radiant-clarity-6-2-amt-waveguide

The CLARITY 6.2 takes things a step further with a custom-designed waveguide created by PURIFI specifically for this model. The design features five aluminum “fins,” or coherers, that play a critical role in controlling the AMT tweeter’s directivity and improving the integration between drivers.

At the crossover point — around 2400 Hz — the waveguide narrows the tweeter’s dispersion to closely match that of the woofer, creating a smoother, more cohesive handoff between the two. This alignment leads to a more accurate soundstage and better imaging across the listening area.

The waveguide also tackles room interaction. By restricting vertical dispersion, it minimizes reflections from the floor and ceiling that can muddy mid and high frequencies — especially in untreated rooms.

What sets this design apart, though, is its dual role: while the shape tightens dispersion around the crossover, the fins help expand high-frequency dispersion above that range. The result is a speaker that sounds focused and well-aligned when you’re in the “sweet spot,” but still delivers air and detail even when you’re not. It’s an elegant solution to a common problem in high-performance two-way designs.

Passive Radiators

ushindi-passive-radiators

To complete the acoustic package, CLARITY-series speakers use passive radiators — and not just any off-the-shelf solution. Radiant Acoustics opted for PURIFI USHINDI passive radiators instead of traditional bass reflex ports. These radiators are purpose-built to extend low-frequency performance while avoiding the downsides of ported enclosures.

The CLARITY 6.2 uses dual 6.5-inch radiators, and the CLARITY 4.2 features dual 4-inch radiators. Thanks to their large surface area, they can move more air with less excursion, which results in deeper bass and lower distortion — all while keeping the cabinet compact. Unlike ported designs that require more internal volume and often introduce chuffing or midrange bleed, this passive radiator system provides clean, tight bass without sacrificing clarity.

The radiators are mounted in a Dual Balanced Push-Pull configuration, meaning they sit back-to-back on a shared axis, perpendicular to the main driver’s axis. This setup cancels out reactive forces within the cabinet, resulting in zero net vibration — even at high output levels. The benefit? No cabinet resonance, no added distortion, and a more faithful reproduction of the original signal.

The CLARITY 4.2’s radiators have been specifically tweaked by PURIFI for Radiant Acoustics, including extra mass to lower the resonant frequency, allowing the smaller model to hit harder in the bass than you’d expect from its footprint. It’s a clever engineering move that helps both speakers punch well outside their size class — without sounding bloated or boomy.

  • The Clarity 6.2 uses the PTT6.5PR-NL2-02 (6.5-inch) PURIFI passive radiators.
  • The Clarity 4.2 uses the PTT4.0PR-NL2-03 (4-inch) PURIFI passive radiators.

Crossover

The CLARITY series crossover has been engineered with one clear goal: minimize distortion while maximizing synergy between the drivers and radiators. Every component in the signal path is selected for performance, not just cost or convenience.

radiant-clarity-crossover

Air-core inductors are used throughout the design to maintain linearity and avoid core saturation. These coils feature thick wire windings to reduce DC resistance, which helps preserve dynamic range and optimize sensitivity — key for revealing subtle musical details without coloration.

Capacitors are chosen based on hard measurements, prioritizing low internal resistance and high self-resonance frequency. This ensures minimal energy loss, low distortion, and reliable high-power handling even during complex musical passages. The resistors follow suit, offering low self-inductance and rock-solid linearity across the operating range.

But it’s not just about low distortion. The crossover is carefully tuned to align the woofer, AMT tweeter, and passive radiators for a coherent, unified response. It controls the horizontal directivity across the frequency spectrum, widening the effective listening area and making the system less position-dependent — a key win in real-world rooms where not everyone sits in the “perfect” spot.

The result? A speaker that sounds focused and natural whether you’re dead center or off to the side — with crossover voicing that avoids the phase issues or tonal gaps that plague lesser designs.

The Front Baffle

The CLARITY series front baffle is a serious piece of engineering — and not just for looks. It’s machined from a solid block of aluminum and then bonded to an MDF front panel to create a rigid sandwich structure. This hybrid approach dramatically reduces vibration, cabinet flex, and unwanted resonance — all of which can smear detail and muddy imaging.

radiant-clarity-baffle

Most speakers in this category stick with MDF-only front baffles to keep costs down. Radiant Acoustics clearly didn’t take that route. The aluminum faceplate is heavy, inert, and expensive to produce — but it provides a rock-solid foundation for the PURIFI USHINDI woofers, allowing them to work under ideal mechanical conditions.

The baffle’s chamfered edges serve both form and function. Visually, they soften the speaker’s industrial lines, but more importantly, they reduce edge diffraction, helping to maintain clarity and focus in the upper midrange and treble.

Bottom line: the front baffle isn’t just another material choice — it’s a performance-driven decision that supports the entire acoustic architecture of the speaker.

BASOTECT Dampened Cabinet

Hailing straight from Peter Lyngdorf’s personal woodshop, the CLARITY series cabinet is built tough with thick MDF panels reinforced by horizontal bracing to maximize rigidity and kill unwanted cabinet noise. Inside, a dedicated support pad surrounds the woofers, giving them room to breathe and optimizing their mechanical environment.

basotect-dampening

The woofer magnets get special treatment too — a brace plug channels energy directly into the cabinet’s core, reducing flex in both the front and rear baffles. This structural reinforcement keeps distortion from creeping in where it matters most.

For internal damping, Radiant Acoustics uses Basotect, a melamine-based open-cell foam known for its top-tier sound absorption. This isn’t just any filler—it’s specifically effective at taming the backward radiation from the AMT tweeter, keeping the cabinet acoustically quiet and preserving the speaker’s clarity and precision.

Bottom line: every detail of the cabinet’s design is geared toward minimizing distortion and maximizing sonic purity, a hallmark of Lyngdorf’s obsessive approach to audio engineering.

Radiant Acoustics CLARITY 6.2

radiant-clarify-6-2-colors

The CLARITY 6.2 is the larger model in the CLARITY series, yet it maintains a compact footprint. This two-way speaker is engineered to deliver deep, controlled bass along with clear midrange and high frequencies, all with minimal distortion. It handles the dynamic range required for live recordings while preserving the accuracy of original material.

Despite its two-driver design, the CLARITY 6.2 produces a seamless and spacious soundstage that can fill a typical listening room. It’s designed to compete with larger three-way systems by providing balanced and detailed sound in a smaller package.

Radiant Acoustics CLARITY 4.2

Sharing much of the advanced technology found in the 6.2, the CLARITY 4.2 is engineered to maintain exceptionally low distortion for a speaker of its size. The clarity and power it delivers exceed typical expectations for a compact design.

Smaller than the 6.2, the CLARITY 4.2 offers an expansive, full-bodied, and immersive soundstage. Its ultra-low distortion architecture ensures that what you hear is pure music, free from coloration or interference. While its sensitivity numbers may look modest on paper, the CLARITY 4.2 still provides enough output to fill most listening rooms without strain.

As much as I don’t like the industrial design, the drivers, cabinet, construction, and materials are indeed impressive. Do you think these will sound more like a DALI or Lyngdorf? They are not inexpensive When you consider the size, stands, and the amount of power you might need.

      Anton,

I suspect that they will not sound like DALI. Probably more analytical with deeper bass.
