The Lumin P1 Network Music Hub Reaches U.S. Shores

Can the $10,000 Lumin P1 Network Music Hub make it in the U.S.? Seattle Hi-Fi seems to think so.

Lumin P1 Digital Music Streamer Front with Remote

Seattle Hi-Fi is a U.S. dealer that offers high-end audio products from the U.S. and around the World. A new addition to their product offerings, by way of Pixel Magic of Hong Kong, is the Lumin P1 Network Music Control Hub

The P1 combines the functions of a Music Streamer, DAC, and Preamp and comes packed with a lot of features and connectivity. However, it doesn’t include built-in amps, so you need to connect it to an external amplifier(s) and a good set of speakers or through an HDMI-ARC compatible TV/audio system in order to hear what it has to offer.

Features

Music Streaming: The P1 includes support for Spotify Connect, Tidal, Qobuz, and TuneIn Radio. The P1 also supports Bluetooth and Apple AirPlay 2.

Supported Digital Audio Formats

  • DSD Lossless: DSF (DSD), DIFF (DSD), DoP (DSD)
  • PCM Lossless: FLAC, Apple Lossless (ALAC), WAV, AIFF
  • Compressed (lossy) Audio: MP3, AAC (in M4A container), MQA

DAC (Digital to Analog Converter): All digital signals are processed by the built-in upsampling ESS Dual Sabre DAC ES9028PRO

LEEDH Processing: This is a digital lossless volume adjustment algorithm that improves the quality of audio signals coming into the P1 and going from the P1 to a connected amplifier.

Digital Connections: In addition to accessing digital music from the internet, digital optical and digital coaxial inputs are provided, as well as AES/BEU and USB ports. The P1 also includes 3 HDMI ver 2.0 inputs and 1 HDMI output with ARC support

Tip: When using HDMI-ARC, you must set the TV’s audio output to PCM for direct output to a two-channel amplifier. Lumin also claims that the P1 includes HDR10, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos pass-through when using the ARC connection to a compatible TV and the Dolby Atmos signal is riding on Dolby Digital Plus-encoded content

Analog Connections: There are RCA-type (unbalanced) and XLR (balanced) analog audio inputs as well as unbalanced and balanced preamp-out connections if you want to connect the Lumin P1 to an external amplifier or stereo/home theater receiver.

Note: There is no dedicated analog audio input to connect a traditional vinyl record turntable. However, you can connect one that already has a built-in phono preamp or connect an external phone preamp between the turntable and one of the P1’s analog audio inputs.

Additional Connectivity: Gigabit Ethernet and dedicated Fiber network connection. The P1 requires a wired connection via Ethernet or Fiber to a broadband router with additional wireless (Wi-Fi connectivity).

Lumin P1 Connected Devices

Multiroom Audio: Using the Lumin app and network connectivity, you can build a multiroom audio system with the P1 and other compatible Lumin devices.

Roon: The P1 is Roon Ready which helps to manage your music library for easy access.

Control: No Front panel controls are provided (although there is a front panel status display). A remote control is provided as well as access to the Lumin control app for iOS or Android.
