LG’s LX3 Bendable 42-inch OLED Flex TV Will Enhance Your Gaming Experience

Can’t decide if a flat or curved screen is best for TV viewing and gaming? With the LG Flex LX3, you can have a curved screen at the touch of a button.

Following up on its announcement of the giant 97-inch G2 Series OLED TV at IFA, LG is going a little smaller, but no less innovative with the introduction at IFA of the LG OLED Flex TV (model LX3).

What makes this TV different is that it sports a 42-inch bendable screen. Although this is the first bendable 42-inch TV, LG and Samsung actually first demonstrated this technology in 2014. Here is a photo of one such unit from the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

Why the Flex LX3?

LG is targeting the Flex LX3 as the perfect solution for gamers by providing a more immersive visual experience with its curved mode but also as a great option for viewing TV and streaming content in a more traditional flat viewing mode.

Tip: The LX3 has a built-in TV tuner and LG’s WebOS 22 smart TV platform.

The LX3 can go from flat to curve with twenty levels of curvature, for a truly personalized viewing experience. The max curvature is 900R.

EVO Technology

EVO OLED panels working in conjunction with Brightness Booster™ technology and LG’s α (Alpha) 9 Gen 5 intelligent processor (or the processor in the next section) deliver higher brightness while maintaining clarity and detail. Evo panels also feature improved heat dissipation which provides more picture stability at high brightness levels.

This allows the Flex LX3 to better provide infinite contrast, deeper blacks, and highly accurate colors.

LG α9 Gen 5 Intelligent Processor

This processor employs a deep learning algorithm that enhances upscaling performance which is important for lower resolution content to look better on a large screen. The a9 Gen 5 also supports the Dynamic Tone-mapping Pro Algorithm, which individually processes over 5,000 areas on the screen, to produce a more vivid and detailed image, in brighter and darker parts of the picture.

With α9 Gen 5 processor support, the LG FLEX LX3 is able to provide eye comfort with flicker-free, glare-free images that enable users to enjoy longer gaming sessions and binge-watch their favorite shows without experiencing eye fatigue.

Tip: The LX3 also has a super anti-reflection (SAR) coating that helps to reduce visual distractions, so that users can focus all their attention on what’s on screen.

Adjustable Screen Curvature

The LX3’s screen curvature can be adjusted via available presets using the dedicated button on the remote control, or manually changed in five percent increments over 20 different levels. The LG OLED Flex can be tilted up to 10 degrees or away up to 5 degrees from the user and has a height-adjustable stand-up or down by 140 millimeters for those who like to sit up or lean back.

Image Resize Feature

The size of the onscreen image can be adjusted for specific needs. For example for role-playing games (RPGs), racing games, or platformers all 42 inches of the screen may be preferable. However, real-time strategy (RTS) or first-person shooter (FPS) gamers might prefer a 32 or 27-inch image that allows them to see everything going on at a glance. The image resizes feature can be accessed from the Gaming Dashboard menu. Users can also choose the position high, low, or centered of the smaller image on the screen.

Gaming App and Optimizer

A new game app, which is exclusive to the LX3, supports custom screensavers, offers shortcuts to popular apps, such as Twitch and YouTube, and provides a list of connected external input devices, all on the same screen.

LG’s Gaming Optimizer (which is a feature on most LG TVs) has been updated to work specifically with the LX3. Features include customized sound settings for specific game genres to its diverse range of gamer-centric picture and audio options.

Additional gaming support includes 4K/120Hz and the latest HDMI 2.1 features, such as variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low latency mode (ALLM). The LX3 is G-SYNC® Compatible and AMD FreeSync™ Premium certified.

Tip: The LG Flex LX3 has a 0.1 millisecond response time and low input lag.

Multi-View

The LX3 features a Multi-view mode. This is great for gamers as they can view content from two different sources simultaneously and select which audio source they want to hear. This means they can play a PC or a console game while watching YouTube videos streamed from a smartphone at the same time.

Switching Hub Function

The Switching Hub function makes it possible to use the set’s built-in microphone and any devices connected via its USB ports such as a headset, keyboard, or mouse with a PC connected by HDMI cable.

By pressing the source switching button on the side of the LX3’s stand, users can switch device connection back and forth between PC and LG OLED Flex without having to physically disconnect and reconnect anything. Additionally, the built-in mic provides effective echo-cancellation for crystal-clear voice chatting while gaming.

Audio Support

The Flex LX3 includes an equalizer, options for AI Game Sound and Dolby Atmos (content dependent), and offers access to advanced audio settings, enabling users to tailor the gaming experience precisely how they want it.

The LX3 features two front-firing 40W speakers. An external soundbar or audio system can be connected if desired via HDMI-ARC

Lighting Feature

The  LG OLED Flex includes a customizable lighting feature in its shield-like rear design. This feature can synchronize the lighting with video or audio content playing on the screen. Players can choose from five lighting modes.

Availability and Pricing

Although LG provided lots of information on the features of the Flex LX3, they didn’t provide any information on availability or pricing.
