With over 60 years of acoustic innovation, KEF has set the benchmark for high-fidelity sound, and the new KEF XIO Soundbar continues that legacy with a cinematic audio experience designed for today’s most demanding home theater setups. Engineered for accuracy and clarity, the XIO features KEF’s proprietary Uni-Q MX driver array, P185 low-frequency driver with P-Flex surround, and patent-pending VECO (Velocity Control) Technology, all optimized by the Music Integrity Engine (MIE) for precise sound reproduction.
With native support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Sony 360 Reality Audio, the XIO delivers hyper-realistic, three-dimensional soundscapes—whether you’re watching movies, streaming music, or gaming. This is next-generation home entertainment, built on decades of British hi-fi expertise.
Immersive 5.1.2 Home Theater Soundbar with Precision Bass and Intelligent Room Calibration
The KEF XIO packs a 5.1.2 punch—five main channels, one subwoofer channel, and two overhead channels—all fired up by a dozen Class D amps crammed into a single sleek soundbar. It’s basically a home theater in a box that doesn’t look like a brick.
Worried your living room setup might sabotage your audio? Don’t be. KEF’s Intelligent Placement Technology (IPT) scours the space around the XIO and adjusts the sound automatically. It’s like having a sound engineer who actually knows what they’re doing, minus the attitude.
Dialogue Mode is here to save you from “what’d they say?” moments. Tucked into the EQ alongside Night and Music Modes, it cranks up the vocal frequencies and drowns out background noise, so you catch every word—no more guessing or subtitles required.
Sound imaging on this thing isn’t just good; it’s borderline witchcraft. It places sounds in the room so precisely you’ll swear someone’s whispering right next to your ear while the orchestra soars somewhere above. Every detail, every nuance, perfectly rendered.
And don’t let the slim profile fool you—the bass is no joke. Thanks to KEF’s P185 low-frequency driver with P-Flex tech (borrowed from their award-winning KC62 and KC92 subwoofers), the XIO pushes out deep, tight bass that rarely shows up in soundbars this size. They even paired two of these drivers back-to-back in a force-cancelling setup, cutting mechanical vibrations to near zero. Translation: no rattles, no fuzz, just clean, powerful low end that hits like a heavyweight champ but fits on your entertainment shelf.
Sleek Minimalist Design with Adaptive Placement for Seamless Home Theater Integration
The XIO doesn’t just sound smart—it looks the part, too. Sporting a sleek aluminum top plate and splash-proof fabric, it’s built to survive life’s little accidents without looking like a tech gadget threw on a tuxedo. Minimalist and modern, this soundbar slips effortlessly into any room without screaming, “Look at me, I’m expensive!”
Whether you stash it on a shelf or mount it on the wall, the XIO adapts like a pro with dedicated modes for each setup. Pick from Slate Black or Silver Grey, and you’ve got a soundbar that not only plays nice with your existing gear but actually elevates the whole vibe. In other words, it’s the perfect discreet home theater upgrade—no flash, all substance.
Revolutionary Acoustic Technology Powers Precise, Room-Filling Sound
The XIO rocks six miniature Uni-Q MX drivers—KEF’s iconic Uni-Q array shrunk down but still packing full sonic punch. Thanks to a cleverly engineered decoupler acting like a tightrope walker between low-frequency cones and high-frequency tweeter domes, the drivers move freely where it counts, delivering sharp, balanced sound no matter where you’re parked in the room.
At the core of the P185 LF driver, KEF’s patent-pending Velocity Control Technology (VECO) keeps the cone’s motion in check with a built-in sensor and negative feedback loop. The result? Distortion and compression take a hike, leaving you with pristine bass clarity that refuses to blur or bloat.
Tying it all together is the Music Integrity Engine (MIE) for Cinema—a suite of in-house DSP magic that handles multi-channel processing, virtualization, and adaptive placement with surgical precision. This means the XIO doesn’t just blast sound; it sculpts an immersive, cinema-level experience in your living room, making every movie night a full-on event.

Smooth Wireless and Wired Connectivity with W2 Streaming and Multi-Format Support
KEF’s W2 Wireless Platform, borrowed from the LS Wireless Collection, keeps your playlists flowing from all the heavy hitters—TIDAL, Amazon Music, Qobuz, Deezer, and more—without breaking a sweat. KEF has also integrated support for TIDAL Connect and Spotify Connect. Still no word on Qobuz Connect. With Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Reality Audio baked in, the XIO delivers pristine streaming sound that actually sounds like something worth streaming.
Plugging in is a breeze with HDMI eARC, optical, and RCA subwoofer outputs, so whether you’re a minimalist or a cable enthusiast, the XIO fits your setup without drama. Need more bass? No problem. Pair any KEF subwoofer wirelessly through the KEF KW2 RX receiver accessory, designed to keep things effortless and glitch-free.

Intuitive Control Options for Personalized Audio and Easy Playback
The XIO keeps things simple without sacrificing sophistication. Adjust sound settings and manage playback right from the top panel, your remote, or the KEF Connect app—your call. Whether you’re a casual listener or an audio nerd, the normal and expert EQ modes let you fine-tune the sound to your space and taste without a headache.
Need clear conversations? Dialogue mode zeroes in on speech clarity—perfect for TV shows, documentaries, or news broadcasts. Watching late at night? Flip on Night mode to keep things polite and quiet without losing detail.

The Bottom Line
The KEF XIO soundbar delivers premium design, immersive surround sound codec support, and modern connectivity in a sleek, minimalist package that blends beautifully into any home theater setup. With support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Sony 360 Reality Audio, plus a robust mix of HDMI eARC, wireless streaming, and subwoofer options, it’s a well-equipped centerpiece for a living room or media space.
That said, at $2,500, expectations are high—and while upward-firing drivers for Atmos have become the industry norm, we’d hoped for something more innovative at this price point. Disappointingly, the XIO doesn’t appear to support wireless expansion with KEF’s own speakers like the LSX II or LS50 Wireless II, which would have made this a far more flexible and impactful surround solution.
Still, KEF fans will appreciate the option to pair one of the brand’s excellent subwoofers wirelessly, which adds real low-end authority. The XIO is a refined, beautifully built soundbar—but it stops just short of being the truly complete wireless ecosystem it could have been. We look forward to reviewing this in the coming months.

I admit, I am intrigued. I have yet to hear convincing virtualized rear channels from a soundbar. But I’m willing to suspend disbelief until I can actually hear this thing. Really seems odd they wouldn’t offer a discrete rear channel speaker option for true immersion. Up-firing height speakers don’t bother me – they can work extremely well in the right room – and there really isn’t any discreet way to do actual height channels with a soundbar. But those rear channels though…
Also, I wonder how it supports 360 Reality Audio/MPEG-H? Some products support it via Google Cast (which this has), so maybe you’ll need to load Amazon Music on your phone, select songs in 360RA then cast to the bar? There are a few devices that support 360RA/MPEG-H via HDMI output (notably the FireTV Stick 4K Max) but without a second HDMI port, I don’t think this will work. The TV would need to support MPEG-H passthrough and honestly I don’t know if any TVs can do that.
