ZMF Headphones doesn’t do one-size-fits-all, and the new Tessidera makes that clear from the jump. Debuted at AXPONA 2026, this planar magnetic headphone sticks to the brand’s formula: obsessive craftsmanship, heavy customization, and a sound shaped as much by materials as its tuning. Wood is still the story here, with options that shift the presentation from quick and dry to warm and lingering, turning each unit into something closer to a bespoke instrument than a mass-produced product.
The Tessidera looks exactly like what you’d expect if you’ve spent time with the Caldera or Auteur; same unmistakable ZMF DNA but adds a few new twists. Buyers can choose between a black aluminum chassis or a lighter black magnesium version, both paired at launch with Canarywood cups and black hardware. Headband options include the standard strap or the ZMF BBB system for added comfort.
More materials may come later, but the name already hints at the intent: “tessitura,” the natural range where an instrument resonates best. Here, that idea carries over to the pairing of Canarywood with the planar magnetic driver, aiming for a tonal balance that feels less engineered and more inherent.
Specifications include a 35 ohm impedance and approximately 92dB/mW sensitivity. The driver is a 1 µm planar magnetic design with CAMS, paired with the ADS patented damping system and the Caldera pad design. ZMF also notes the use of its ZAM and SRS technologies.
Our Quick Take

I only had a few minutes with the Tessidera, so take this for what it is, a quick listen in less than ideal conditions. A full review is coming soon, where I will have the chance to evaluate it with my dCS desktop rig and a wide range of DAPs and dongle DACs.
Going in, I was told the Tessidera sits within the Caldera family and shares the same planar magnetic driver lineage. Naturally, I expected something bold and immediate, big, energetic, technically impressive, maybe even a little showy. That is not what this is.

Instead, the Tessidera leans warm, with a slightly thicker presentation and a very relaxed sense of delivery. It does not push. It does not demand attention. If anything, it feels like a deliberate counterpoint to the Caldera in the ZMF Headphones lineup.
Saying it is like a Caldera sent to charm school undersells it and is not entirely fair, but the comparison helps frame the intent. The edges are smoother, the treble more controlled, and the overall presentation more composed. It is an easy listen that still delivers solid detail, walking a fine line between polite and disengaged without tipping into either.

If the Caldera ever felt like too much, especially up top, the Tessidera might be exactly what you have been waiting for.
Phrases like “instant classic” get thrown around far too easily in this industry, but it applies here. The Tessidera is supremely comfortable, and the sound has a natural flow that leans gentle without losing enough energy to keep you engaged or enough detail to remind you that resolution has not been sacrificed for warmth. There is something undeniably comforting about putting them on, cueing up a familiar track, and letting the music take over. It feels less like analysis and more like returning to something you already know.
