FiiO Expands Active Speaker Line With New SP5 Hi-Fi Desktop Monitors

FiiO expands its desktop audio lineup with the new SP5 active speakers, featuring upgraded amplification, premium drivers, and wide-format connectivity for under $750.

FiiO SP5 Desktop Speaker

FiiO has been on a tear in 2025. With the launch of the S15 music streamer, FT7 planar magnetic headphones, FX17 IEMs, M21 digital audio player, K17 headphone amp, SA1 active speakers, and the K15 DAC/amp, they’ve hit just about every corner of the desktop and portable audio market.

Now they’re adding another powered speaker to the mix: the new FiiO SP5. It builds on FiiO’s existing lineup of active speakers — including the SP3, SP3BT, and SA1 — with upgrades aimed at both desktop audio setups and more demanding studio environments. According to FiiO, the SP5 delivers improvements in sound quality and performance that push it further into reference territory while keeping things compact and desk-friendly.

FiiO SP5 Features: Desktop-Friendly Powered Speakers With Studio-Grade Performance

As with most compact active speaker systems — and consistent with FiiO’s previous designs — the SP5 follows the familiar primary/secondary setup. The primary speaker houses all of the amplification and inputs, while the secondary connects via the included speaker cable. It’s a clean, functional layout that keeps your desktop looking less like a recording studio exploded.

Under the hood, the SP5 features a completely reworked dual power supply system. Each speaker gets its own dedicated 120W power supply — not shared — which helps eliminate cross-channel interference and keeps power delivery stable. This setup is more in line with what you’d expect from a traditional component system than from a typical powered desktop pair.

FiiO also fitted the SP5 with a true 4-channel amplifier design, delivering 60W + 20W per speaker. That means each driver gets its own dedicated power: 60 watts for the 5.25-inch Rohacell-cone woofer and 20 watts for the 1-inch composite silk dome tweeter. It’s a more surgical approach to amplification — not just louder, but more controlled.

The Rohacell woofer is engineered for ultra-low distortion and quick, tight bass response. Meanwhile, the tweeter benefits from a rear cavity design and internal magnet structure, which gives the highs a smooth, detailed character without smearing or harshness. According to FiiO, this combo is all about delivering clarity, balance, and full-range performance in a speaker system that doesn’t eat your entire desk.

To fine-tune what you actually hear, the SP5 comes equipped with a built-in 3-band EQ system for bass and treble adjustments, plus dual-frequency bass extension. It’s designed to give users quick, hands-on control — whether you’re taming boom in a small room or adding some low-end punch for casual listening.

But if you want more surgical precision, pairing the SP5 with the FiiO Control App (available on iOS and Android) unlocks a full 10-band parametric EQ (PEQ) along with complete speaker configuration from your phone, tablet, or laptop. Whether you’re dialing in your personal desktop setup or prepping a mix in a small studio space, the tuning flexibility is there.

In terms of connectivity, the SP5 covers both wireless and wired needs. On the wireless side, it supports high-resolution Bluetooth codecs like LDAC and aptX Adaptive. For wired connections, you get analog AUX and RCA inputs, balanced XLR, and USB-C — making it versatile enough to slot into everything from laptop setups to more serious desktop rigs.

For added input flexibility, the SP5 features independent volume memory for each source. That means every input — whether it’s Bluetooth, USB-C, RCA, or XLR — retains its own volume level, so you’re not constantly readjusting when switching between devices.

Volume control is handled by a low-noise, high-precision encoder, allowing for stepless, electronic adjustments via the front-mounted knob. It’s not just smooth — it preserves resolution across the entire frequency range, so you don’t lose detail when listening at lower levels.

The SP5 also includes a 12-volt trigger input, allowing it to sync power-on with external gear — handy if you’re integrating it into a larger setup and want everything to fire up with one switch.

Additional controls include a custom IR remote, RGB LED indicators (color-coded for input selection), and that front-facing volume knob — tactile, responsive, and exactly where it should be for desktop use.

The SP5 includes two Furukawa oxygen-free copper power cables, ensuring clean power delivery and maximum electrical conductivity.

The Bottom Line

FiiO has been on a serious product tear in 2025, and the launch of the SP5 marks at least the seventh new release by mid-July. It’s the fourth entry in their active speaker lineup, joining the SP3, SP3BT, and SA1 — and based on its specs, the SP5 clearly takes the flagship position.

It builds on FiiO’s prior efforts with more refined drivers and higher-output amplification, aimed at desktop users and even small studio applications. But just like the earlier models, the SP5 skips HDMI ARC/eARC and—oddly—leaves out a dedicated phono input. That’s a bit of a head-scratcher considering the less expensive SA1 includes one.

In terms of market positioning, FiiO seems to be angling squarely at brands like Audioengine. While Audioengine has a wider catalog and longer history in this space, FiiO’s aggressive release schedule suggests they’re serious about catching up. Four speaker models in two years isn’t nothing — but they’ve still got some ground to cover.

And FiiO’s not just competing with Audioengine. Other strong players in the compact powered speaker market include ELAC, Kanto, and Monoprice — all offering solid performance at competitive price points. KEF’s offerings sit at the premium end of the spectrum, but they bring top-tier sound quality, extensive connectivity, and that signature design polish. FiiO may not be playing at KEF’s level just yet, but the SP5 shows they’re aiming higher with each release.

Price & Availability

The FiiO SP5 will be available in August 2025, for an expected price of $749 / £709.

$750 is not completely out of line when you consider what KEF charges and those Alpha iQ from PSB are over $1,000 USD.

They need to make it in red and yellow. Like the connectivity options.

FiiO has done a rather good job with their speakers and I like the design. I agree that “black” is a very boring option. We plan on reviewing these.
