The custom-installation category has grown far beyond hidden televisions, rack-mounted amplification, and living rooms that cost more than a decent first home. As more affluent buyers relocate to warmer Southern markets where patios, pools, covered kitchens, and outdoor entertaining spaces are usable for most of the year, high-end outdoor audio has become a meaningful part of the residential installation conversation.
Coastal Source is clearly betting on that opportunity with its new 1000 Series Bollard speakers. Building on the company’s established 10.0 Bollard platform, the new modular range promises higher output, deeper bass, improved fidelity, and the kind of environmental durability required when Mother Nature, landscapers, and the occasional poorly aimed golf ball all have a vote.
“The 1000 Series represents a major milestone for Coastal Source and for outdoor audio as a category,” said Franco D’Ascanio, CEO of Coastal Source. “We challenged ourselves to create a system that delivers the emotional impact, clarity, and dynamic range people expect from premium indoor listening environments while maintaining the durability required for the outdoors. The result is a platform that elevates every outdoor entertainment experience.”

Borrowing technology from Coastal Source’s flagship 12.0 Line Source Bollard, the 1000 Series uses weatherized ribbon tweeters engineered for the realities of outdoor listening. Their wide horizontal dispersion should help cover larger seating and entertaining areas more evenly, while the design aims to preserve the detail and dynamic range that conventional landscape speakers often trade away in the name of durability.
Those tweeters are paired with an acoustic-suspension enclosure and force-canceling bass technology intended to deliver more controlled low-frequency output, clearer vocals, and greater overall musical coherence. In other words, this is not another pair of speakers meant to disappear behind the hydrangeas and politely mumble during a barbecue.

The 1000 Series is built around sealed elliptical enclosures made from Coastal Source’s color-through rotomolded composite material. Beyond avoiding the usual painted-metal aging process, the construction is designed to withstand moisture, UV exposure, heat, cold, and corrosion; important considerations in coastal markets where salt air has a rather efficient way of ruining expensive things.
Flexibility is another major part of the platform. Coastal Source offers six optional modules and multiple installation approaches, including landscape, hardscape, and partially buried applications, allowing installers to shape both the coverage and visual impact of a system around the property rather than forcing every project into the same planter-bed formula.
The speakers also integrate with Coastal Source’s Plug+Play ecosystem and Uni-Connect cabling, which should simplify installation, future expansion, and serviceability. For integrators building larger outdoor systems, that modular approach matters almost as much as the speaker itself, because the last thing anyone wants is to excavate half a patio just to add another zone.
“Every aspect of the 1000 Series was engineered to push the boundaries of what’s possible outdoors,” added D’Ascanio. “From its acoustic performance and modular architecture to its environmental resilience, this platform reflects fifteen years of innovation and real-world experience designing products that truly Defy the Elements.”

The Bottom Line
Coastal Source remains one of the more serious names in high-performance outdoor audio, lighting, and power, and the 1000 Series Bollards expand on its established 10.0 platform with a more flexible, higher-performance approach to landscape sound. The real differentiator is not simply the addition of ribbon tweeters, although that is unusual outdoors. It is the combination of weatherized ribbons, modular 2-way and 3-way configurations, force-canceling bass technology, and a sealed, purpose-built bollard enclosure designed to integrate into larger Coastal Source systems.
This is not a DIY patio-speaker solution, nor is it intended for someone who wants a Bluetooth speaker beside the grill. The 1000 Series is aimed at luxury residential, hospitality, and large-scale commercial installations where the system needs to deliver serious output, broad coverage, and durable all-weather performance without turning the landscape into a field of black boxes. External amplification is required, including for the passive B1500 subwoofer, so dealer involvement is essential to determine placement, amplification, zoning, and the right combination of speaker modules.
Pricing has not been announced, but Coastal Source enters a competitive field that includes Theory Audio’s ic6 and iws12 Bollards, Origin Acoustics’ landscape and ribbon-based systems, and Definitive Technology’s Dymension Outdoor Bollards. Coastal Source’s advantage may be its more comprehensive ecosystem and the flexibility to create a more tailored, higher-end outdoor system. That will matter to buyers with the property, budget, and patience to do it properly.
