Bose Corporation Receives Red Dot Award: Design Team of the Year

Bose Corporation has been chosen as red dot award: design team of the year 2008, a title regarded as the highest distinction in the design world. Issued annually since 1988, the award honors the international design team that sets standards through continuous innovation and achievement in design.

Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award and senator of the Icsid (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design), presented the award to the Bose design team on June 23 at an awards ceremony at the Aalto Theater in Essen, Germany. The recognition follows several individual red dot awards for Bose products in previous years.

“The development and design processes at Bose result in products that are based on the latest technology, however, for which technology is not regarded as an end in itself,” explains Professor Dr. Zec. “The loudspeakers, earphones and hi-fi systems from Bose are striking, precisely because they do not struggle to be striking. They possess an elegant classicism that marries technology with perfect form to make an end product that is extremely functional and easy to use.”

In addition to the design team award, four Bose systems were recognized in this year’s red dot award: product design 2008 competition. They were chosen from more than 3,000 submissions from 51 countries and evaluated by an international jury of experts against specific criteria, including: degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, longevity, ecological compatibility and clarity of function.

The Bose Lifestyle V30 home theater system was awarded red dot ‘best of the best’ in the category of home electronics. The Bose SoundDock Portable digital music system and Bose on-ear headphones received red dot award: product design 2008 awards in the home electronics/audio category. Additionally, the Bose Computer MusicMonitor™ was awarded the red dot award: product design 2008 award in the computers and accessories/ monitors category.

Red dot product design awards are considered a seal of quality, standing for membership of the best in design and business.

“We are honored to be red dot’s design team of the year and are delighted that our products were also selected for their performance, elegance and simplicity,” said Michael Laude, Design Director, Bose Corporation. “This award reinforces our philosophy and acknowledges the vision of our founder, Dr. Amar G. Bose. That vision has been unwavering since the company was founded, and it continues to guide us today.”

Bose products are currently on display in a special exhibition entitled Bose Design: The Expression of Technology until July 27, 2008, at the red dot museum in Essen, Germany. Featuring approximately 1,500 products, the red dot design museum houses the largest permanent exhibition of contemporary design worldwide.
