Solid State Logic Earns Five TEC Award Nominations

Solid State Logic, the world’s leading manufacturer of analogue and digital audio consoles and provider of creative tools for music, broadcast and post production professionals, has been honored with five nominations for the 24th annual Technical Excellence & Creativity (TEC) Awards.

Presented annually by the Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio, the TEC Awards honor the individuals, companies and technical innovations behind the sound of recordings, films, TV shows and live performances. The 2008 TEC Awards will be presented October 3 at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, California, during the AES Convention.

In the Large Format Console Technology category, Solid State Logic has been recognized for its C300 HD Master Studio System, the open architecture console designed for stem based mixing. The C300 HD fully addresses the requirements of music, non-linear film and TV post production, delivering the ultimate in operational efficiency in a cost-effective, scalable solution. Key features include; legendary SSL audio processing tools, tri-level sync support, touch screen interface and an assignable hardware surface for integrated control over console processing, moving fader mix automation and control of up to four DAWs simultaneously.

Nominated in the Microphone Preamplifier Technology category is SSL’s
X-Rack VHD Pre, a module for the XLogic X-Rack that is based on the input section of the popular SSL E-Signature Channel 1U rack processor. The VHD Input module combines five key elements: a high bandwidth mic amp stage that can handle mic, instrument or line inputs, SSL’s innovative Variable Harmonic Drive circuit, an additional line input/ trim control section, a set of High and Low Pass Filters and the classic Listen Mic Compressor.

SSL’s Duende Mini, a compact rugged unit that is ideal for small studios or laptop based DAW users, is nominated in the Signal Processing Technology/Hardware category. This stylish little desktop box is one of three different Duende hardware options. It hooks up to your computer via Firewire making a stack of DSP processing power available to drive 16 channels of plug-in processing (at sample rates up to 96khz) within your host application. The Duende plug-in platform provides access to the unique Duende plug-in collection featuring classic SSL console processing character and quality in plug-in form, and a new generation of SSL processing tools.

In addition, SSL’s X-Comp Plug-in has received a nomination in the Signal Processing Technology/Software category. X-comp is a sophisticated and extremely versatile stereo compressor that cuts through the mass of freeware and bundled plug-ins available with genuinely professional features, results and interface. The X-Comp delivers mastering grade audio fidelity with a distinctly analogue feel and can be used for everything from ‘invisible’ subtle dynamic control for mastering, to dramatic effects that inject raw energy and power that competes with the legendary SSL Listen Mic Compressor. It features a dual symmetrical knee design that provides precise control over the way the compression is applied around the threshold point and the way it backs off again at a Max Gain Ratio value. This can be used to allow the transients to breathe and preserves the life of the signal while still offering a great deal of dynamic control.

Lastly, SSL’s Pro-Convert is nominated in the Workstation Technology category. Pro-Convert is audio project translation software that facilitates the exchange of projects between Digital Audio Workstations (DAW). The application is designed to make it much easier and quicker to move projects between producers or facilities where different DAWs are in daily use. Pro-Convert is designed to break down the creative and technical constraints presented by an ‘industry standard’ DAW environment.

“We are exceptionally pleased to be the recipient of five TEC Award nominations this year,” states SSL Inc. President Phil Wagner. “SSL has received 11 TEC Awards over the last two decades and we are honored that the industry has once again recognized our commitment to providing high-end creative tools for the audio professional.”
