Samsung Debuts First 4GB Flash Memory MP3 Player With Music-To-Go Subscription Service Support

New YP-Z5 is Industry’s First Large Capacity Flash-Based Music Subscription-Enabled Jukebox Player

Samsung Electronics reaffirms its reputation as a leading innovator in the portable audio space with a new ultra-slim, lightweight flash-memory player that puts 3D sound in the palm of consumers’ hands. The YP-Z5 Music Jukebox works seamlessly with music subscription services, and features a long lasting rechargeable battery for up to 24 hours of continuous music enjoyment.

“The YP-Z5 displays Samsung’s commitment to expanding the market possibilities in the portable digital audio space,” said Mark Farish, Digital Media Products Sr. Marketing Manager, Samsung Electronics America. “Consumers are choosing digital music subscription services and Samsung supports this trend with the first 4GB flash player to offer subscription capabilities. With its 1.8″ quality LCD screen, a slim, durable body and extended battery life, the YP-Z5 stands above the competition.”

The YP-Z5 is Microsoft Plays For Sure Audio Download and Subscription enabled, making it the first 4GB flash memory MP3 player that supports subscription services such as MTV’s Urge, Napster, Rhapsody, and Yahoo. Samsung’s music jukebox is a high capacity, ultra-thin and elegantly designed player with a durable aluminum body to prevent scratches and smudges. Weighing in at just over 2 ounces with an ultra-slim size, the Samsung Music Jukebox slips comfortably into a pocket. Samsung’s proprietary DNSe Portable 3D Sound Technology offers high quality sound, and the close to 24-hour rechargeable battery life provides round-the-clock music play that far exceeds other high-capacity flash devices.

The 1.8″ color TFT-LCD screen is one of the largest in its class and lets users view photographs and album art with ease. Users can create sizzling slideshows with dynamic effects as well as pan and zoom on digital photos. The unique touch pad interface makes navigating the player’s functions a snap, and users can customize their user interface background with any JPEG. The YP-Z5 is music subscription service enabled, so consumers can play DRM content transferred from a PC, and the player supports MP3, WMA, WMA DRM10, and JPEG formats. The YP-Z5 comes in both silver and black.

Samsung’s YP-Z5 Music Jukebox will be available in February 2006 at $199 MAP (2GB) and $249 MAP (4GB). Watch CNET’s CES Video on the YP-Z5
