Born of a desire to expand an immensely successful loudspeaker series and meet the needs of a wider variety of customers, MoFi Distribution announces the new MoFi Electronics SourcePoint 888, the latest “tour de force” from Andrew Jones, loudspeaker designer “extraordinaire”.

The SourcePoint 888 name is derived from the use of three 8-inch drivers. Starting with award winning SourcePoint 8’s unique twin drive magnet structure, paper pulp cone, and concentrically mounted soft dome tweeter, two newly developed dedicated 8-inch woofers have been added to create a 3-way floor-standing speaker with exceptional bass extension and dynamics. The two additional woofers operate below 130Hz, relieving the concentric driver from the task of producing deep bassa, allowing it to be fully optimized for midrange and treble performance, therefore providing more sonic transparency. The three-way crossover combines the drivers utilizing carefully chosen crossover frequencies and slopes to seamlessly blend the drivers and minimize the audibility of out-of-band anomalies and produce smooth on- and off-axis responses.

The new woofers employ dual opposing neodymium magnets in a configuration that employs a short coil in a long magnetic gap. The magnetic field is entirely uniform throughout the gap, resulting in a very linear and precisely controlled force for driving the cone. As well, each driver in the SourcePoint 888 operates in optimally sized, individual isolated chambers, the construction of which adds considerable stiffness to the cabinet to further reduce cabinet resonances. Finally, there are two sets of high quality binding posts to provide for bi-wire and bi-amp connectivity.

In the words of Andrew Jones, “My goal for the SourcePoint 888 is to enhance the technology and sound quality of the SourcePoint 8 and elevate it to an even higher performance level.” To accomplish this goal, a rear ported floorstanding cabinet was designed to house three 8” drivers. With SourcePoint 888, Andrew Jones continues MoFi Electronic’s mission to create first-rate components that honor Mobile Fidelity’s studio heritage and help form a complete source-to-output chain wedded to the prized concepts of signal purity, faithfulness, and precision.
