Lenovo’s Ultraslim Multimode Laptop for 2016
Lenovo announced the YOGA 900S, which claims to be the world’s thinnest convertible laptop with a re-designed watchband hinge to help it be just 12.8mm thick and weigh only 999g. For those wondering if Apple’s new 12-inch Macbook is thinner and lighter, you are partially correct. The Macbook is 79g lighter and ranges in thinness from 3.5mm to 13.1mm at its thickest point, but it is not a convertible laptop with a flip all-around screen.
The 12.5-inch YOGA 900S even sheds a hair of thickness off the 13.3-inch YOGA 900 (without the S) that looks almost identical, but measures in at 14.9mm for those still counting hairs. Nevertheless, the YOGA 900 and 900S offer four usage modes (laptop, stand, tent, tablet) and a smoother experience when opening and closing the laptop.
YOGA 900S boasts an impressive 10.5 hours of local video playback, which means with Wi-Fi turned off. Lenovo further states to achieve such longevity the screen brightness must be set at 200nits. But how you set that leaves one to wonder.
On the upside YOGA 900S offers a QHD (2560 x 1440) display with IPS technology, digital pen support, PCIe SSD technology, Dolby Audio Premium, and up to a 2nd Gen Intel Core M7 Processor.
Price and Availability
Lenovo YOGA 900S 12.5-inch multimode laptop starts at $999, and will be available starting in March 2016 in Clementine Orange, Champagne Gold, or Platinum Silver.
Lenovo YOGA 900 13.3-inch multimode laptop is available now from $1,199 to $1,449.
For the budget-minded, Lenovo’s YOGA 700 14-inch multimode laptop sheds a few specs for cost saving.
