KEF fivetwo Series Speakers Recognized as CES Innovations 2007 Honoree

Sleek Speakers to be Seen and Heard at 2007 International CES

MARLBORO, NJ — November 9, 2006 — KEF, the premiere manufacturer of stunning, audiophile-quality speakers, is pleased to announce that its fivetwo Series speakers, Model 7 and Model 11 have been chosen as an International CES Innovations 2007 Design and Engineering Awards honoree in the Best Home Theater Audio Category. The KEF fivetwo Series will be featured at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show, January 8-11, 2007 in Las Vegas.

Products entered in the prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the trade press to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products.

“We are proud of this very prestigious honor for our newest fivetwo Series speakers,” said Alec Chanin, president of KEF America. “Sound reproduction should be invisible — you want surround sound, with the hardware as unobtrusive as possible. That’s why we came up with an alternative to the traditional five speaker home theater systems. As its name implies, the new fivetwo Series envelops you in the surround sound of a full 5.1 set-up using only two speakers and a subwoofer.”

KEF’s unique fivetwo Series speakers provide an elegant solution to the dilemma of blending a home theater speaker system into today’s custom interiors. The fivetwo Series build on KEF’s award winning Instant Theatre technology and brings it to new applications and levels of performance. The fivetwo Series Model 7 and Model 11 offer a unique patented acoustic solution to those who either cannot or would prefer not to accommodate five separate speakers and the associated wiring spread around their room, but would still like to enjoy the exciting experience of true 5.1 channel home theater sound.

The fivetwo Series speakers’ name derives from their ability to produce true five channel surround sound from just two patented speaker enclosures. The completely new line is comprised of the Model 7 bookshelf speaker system (seven drivers) and the Model 11 floor standing speaker system (eleven drivers). Both models feature a slender and elegant “racetrack” shaped enclosure and are available in either a matt silver or high gloss black finish to match most of today’s popular flat panel displays. Optional matching floor stands and wall brackets are available for use with the Model 7s.

KEF achieves true five-channel, no compromise sound from two speaker enclosures by combining its patented Uni-Q ‘point source’ drivers in a multi-driver array with a uniquely new application of flat panel speaker technology. Although housed in only two enclosures, true, discrete left/center/right and left/right surround signals are fed to and reproduced by different drivers within the enclosures.

The inherently broad dispersion pattern of KEF’s patented Uni-Q drivers creates a rock-solid center-fill, while the wide, diffused soundfield from the dipole flat panels provides spacious surround and ambient effects.

The KEF fivetwo Series speakers — Model 7 and Model 11 — retail at $1,200 and $2,000 respectively.

The Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase will feature honorees by product category at the Innovations Plus exhibit area at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, Booth #68747.
