Fujitsu Combines Capacity, Performance and Power Efficiency Into the Industry’s First 320GB 7200 RPM 2.5″ Sata Hard Disk Drive That Sets the Standard for High Performance Laptops and Desktops

Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative computer products including hard disk drives, peripherals and biometric security solutions, today announced the release of its 2.5-inch 320GB(1) 7200RPM SATA hard disk drive (HDD), its second-generation high capacity 7200RPM SATA drive. By doubling storage capacity, increasing data throughput, and keeping power consumption low, Fujitsu has created a 2.5-inch HDD that rivals the performance of traditional 3.5-inch form factor desktop HDDs. Slim-line desktop PCs, along with mainstream and high performance gaming laptops, will benefit from the combination of high storage capacity and high performance. Users will be able to optimize their gaming experience, or store and run simultaneous multimedia photo, high-definition video and office applications.

“Worldwide shipments of 2.5-inch 7200RPM SATA HDDs increased more than 90% in 2007 while average overall 2.5-inch HDD capacities grew more than 60%,” said John Monroe, a research vice president at Gartner. “As average HDD capacities continue to increase, the need for greater performance to take full advantage of rich media applications in mobile computing environments will create new dimensions of demand and new opportunities for drive makers and PC OEMs. We anticipate a combined annual growth rate for 2.5-inch 7200RPM SATA HDDs in excess of 60% during the next five years.”

Fujitsu has once again engineered a hard disk drive that is unmatched in the marketplace. 320GB of capacity in a 2.5-inch form factor allows manufacturers to design creative new PCs and applications that aren’t inhibited by performance and capacity limitations. As a part of Fujitsu’s Green Policy Innovation Program, unveiled in December 2007, the Fujitsu MHZ2 BJ series HDD will ensure performance for multimedia and data-intensive applications like gaming, graphic editing and high-definition video, while reducing power consumption.

“Users continue to demand increased HDD capacity and speed, and we are taking an impressive step in that direction by delivering the first 320GB 7200RPM mobile drives,” said Joel Hagberg, vice president, marketing and business development, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. “In addition, Fujitsu and its customers understand that each future generation of technology must have a smaller carbon footprint without sacrificing quality or performance. The MHZ2 series exemplifies Fujitsu’s dedication to technology innovation and energy efficiency.”
