DVDO iScan HD Video Processor Now Shipping

Campbell, California, March 22, 2004 — Anchor Bay Technologies, Inc. announced today that the company has begun first customer shipments of the new DVDO iScanHD High Resolution Video Scaling Engine, incorporating ABT’s new Precision Video Scaling technology.

The iScan HD is a video scaling processor and A/V switcher that produces display-optimized video at a wide range of output resolutions, aspect ratios, and refresh rates, independent of input format. The product accepts as input all standard NTSC and PAL video formats, as well as ATSC-standard DTV 480p, 720p, and 1080i high-definition video. This makes it suitable for use with all video products worldwide, including DVD players, VCRs, digital video recorders, laserdisc players, and other audio/video sources.

The iScan HD performs deinterlacing and precision resolution upconversion on 480i (or 576i) video signals, resulting in output video quality approaching High Definition (HD), from all Standard Definition sources. Progressive-scan 480p signals are also scaled to near-HD quality, and outputs spanning from 480p all the way to 1080p are supported. Also supported are video output resolutions greater than 1080p, such as 1440 x 1152. High-definition signals are automatically passed through to the output using ABT’s new Automatic Video Format Routing architecture. This allows the use of Component video inputs on the product, for both SD and HD video sources.

The iScan HD is designed for maximum flexibility and adjustability, so that video sources are converted to the optimum resolution for the specific display device, including plasma display panels, DLP projectors, front and rear projection CRTs, LCD panels, D-ILA projectors, and other advanced high-resolution display technologies. This results in superior image quality and best-in-class front-of-screen performance.

The iScan HD also incorporates a suite of sophisticated video processing and display adjustment features and technologies. These include precision programmable framerate conversion and timebase correction, video zoom, pan, and border controls, input and output aspect ratio control, automatic chroma upsampling error correction, and precision digital controls for brightness, contrast, saturation, Hue, Y/C delay, and sharpness. All settings are customizable per input, and stored in nonvolatile memory.

In addition to delivering greatly enhanced picture quality, the iScan HD acts as a hub for all AV source devices. It accepts up to eight discrete video and four digital audio inputs, with two video outputs (analog and digital) and two digital audio outputs (optical and coaxial). This allows seamless connection of DVD players, satellite receivers, DTV receivers, digital video recorders, video game consoles, VCRs, laserdisc players, and PC video directly to the iScan HD, while also handling switching and delay synchronization of digital audio streams. This makes the iScan HD suitable for use in both home theater and professional AV installations, such as corporate boardrooms, churches, and other large-venue or head-end applications.

In addition to ABT’s new Precision Video Scalinga technology, the iScan HD also incorporates other new audio/video technologies including Automatic Chroma Upsampling Error Correction (AutoCUE-Ca) and Precision AV Lipsync automatic digital audio delay.
