Front-Firing and Front-Ported, Flagship XB6 and Models XB4 and XB2 Bring Power, Style and The Boston Sound to Home Theaters and AV Systems

CES ’06, LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2006 — Boston Acoustics, Inc., a premier manufacturer of high-performance audio solutions for use in home music and audio/video systems, aftermarket and OEM automotive systems, and custom built-in audio systems, introduces a new family of Powered Subwoofers at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show.

The flagship XB6 Subwoofer and Models XB4 and XB2 feature built-in amplifiers ranging up to 200 watts for the XB6, and several refinements on the company’s earlier subwoofers. Most notable is that all three are front-firing, front-ported, and very easy to install.

All three subwoofers are also equipped with Deep Channel woofers that deliver extended excursion with increased bass response, and Boston’s exclusive BassTrac circuitry, designed to eliminate distortion. A 24dB/octave low-pass filter on each subwoofer prevents it from being easily localized by ear, increasing placement flexibility. Also provided are variable crossovers, phase controls, rear-panel line and speaker level inputs, and a crossover bypass function for Home Theater components that perform their own bass management.

Equally exciting is the new look they represent in Boston subs — a clean, contemporary style more consistent with the look and feel of the company’s other products, and visually more compatible with modern interiors. New style elements include a lower, slightly wider footprint, gently rounded corners, metal grilles, and flush-mounted volume controls on top of the XB6 and XB4. All are available in black ash and vinyl veneer finishes.

The flagship XB6 Powered Subwoofer features a large 12-inch Deep Channel woofer, BassTrac circuitry, a powerful FTC-rated 200-watt amplifier in a vented enclosure, and a frequency response (+/-3dB) of 29Hz-150Hz. The volume control is conveniently mounted on top of the cabinet, flush with the surface, so the top remains perfectly flat.

The XB4 Powered Subwoofer features a 10-inch Deep Channel woofer, BassTrac circuitry, an FTC-rated 100-watt amplifier in a vented enclosure, and a frequency response (+/-3dB) of 38Hz-180Hz. As in the XB6, the volume control is conveniently mounted flush with the top of the cabinet.

The XB2 Powered Subwoofer features an 8-inch Deep Channel woofer, BassTrac circuitry, an FTC-rated 50-watt amplifier in a vented enclosure, and a frequency response (+/-3dB) of 45Hz-200Hz.

Of course, all three also deliver The Boston Sound, an acclaimed feature of Boston Acoustics speaker systems that reproduces music and movie sound with exceptional accuracy, as artists intend with a pure neutral tonal consistency that remains the same for all Boston speakers.

Boston’s new Powered Subwoofers will be available in the first half of 2006 from authorized Boston Acoustics dealers at suggested prices, respectively, of $500, $400 and $300 for the XB6, XB4 and XB2. They were seen with Boston Acoustics other outstanding products in Booth 21926, South Hall, Las Vegas Convention Center, during the show.
