Speaker maker Bose just unveiled a pair of new Bluetooth speakers: one for in-home use and one you can take on the go. The SoundLink Home ($219) launched today and the SoundLink Flex Gen 2 ($149), a new update to the company’s popular SoundLink Flex (2021 model) portable Bluetooth speaker, was unveiled last week.

Bose says the SoundLink Home offers “premium sound for its size and a sleek minimalist design with a built-in stand to seamlessly fit into any room at home.” It offers nine hours of playback time on a full charge and supports the latest Bluetooth version 5.3 connectivity, including multipoint connections for simplified switching between devices. If you buy a second Home (SoundLink Home that is), you can pair them for stereo playback. The SoundLink Home is available in Light Silver or Cool Grey color options.

If you need something a bit more portable (and weather-proof) then check out the latest version of the Bose SoundLink Flex. The price and form factor are the same as the previous version but the new versions offers some useful enhancements to usability and sound quality including:

  • Bose app compatibility: users can now connect their Flex to the Bose mobile app for Android and iOS, gaining access to customization options and features, like adjusting the EQ or creating a SimpleSync connection with another compatible Bose product.
  • Added Shortcut button: similar to the Shortcut button on the SoundLink Max, the Flex now has a customizable Shortcut button (via the Bose app).
  • New AAC and aptX support: the Flex now supports the Advanced Audio Coding Bluetooth codec standard, as well as aptX to enable Snapdragon Sound on compatible Android devices.

The 2nd generation Bose Flex is available in Blue Dusk, Sandstone, Black and a new Alpine Sage color option. The Flex is IP67 rated so it’s both dustproof and waterproof. A full charge will last for up to 12 hours. The unit can be paired with a second Flex in stereo mode (separate left and right channels) or in party mode (both speakers in mono mode playing the same signal).

Both the SoundLink Home and SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen are available now.
