Avocent Introduces Switch Solutions to the Broadcast Market
New AMX5020 Improves Broadcast Efficiency
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. & LAS VEGAS, NV — April 18, 2005 — Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT) today introduced the AMX5020 at The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas, NV (booth #SL4565). The latest edition to the AMX family, the AMX5020 switch is a 4×42 KVM appliance that provides real-time access, high quality video, smart cable management, and advanced security for managing IT environments and other diverse applications. Leading TV networks and expanding broadcast environments use AMX KVM switching technology to control access to their machine room computers and broadcast devices.
Built on the Avocent field-proven matrix switching design, the scalable architecture of the AMX5020 switch easily accommodates additional servers and users, making it an ideal choice for evolving server installations. The AMX5020 matrix switch allows access from a single point or simultaneous access for multiple users throughout the data center. It also supports multi-platform server environments and provides non-blocked access to servers. The AMX5020 switch includes the AMWorks Java-based system administration tool to help network administrators efficiently manage their IT environment.
“Avocent provides solutions that improve the efficiency of the broadcast engineer, increase the output of the designers and provide reliable computing power to the desktop user,” said Bill Neiland, vice president of product marketing for Avocent. “The benefits KVM brings to the data center are many of the same benefits that switching can bring to the broadcast market, such as security, ROI, and flexible access points.”
The AMX5020 switch incorporates all the features of the existing AMX switches with a combination of four user connections and 42 server connections. The switch is primarily intended as a solution for those customers who have cost constraints, limited numbers of users, and also for those users who want to consolidate all the local ports of their KVM over IP installations.
