Avocent Adds 32-port KVM Switches to Industry-Leading Data Center Management Solutions

Flexible On-Board Web Interface and Virtual Media Provide Remote Server Manageability

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., November 2, 2005 — Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT) today introduced two new 32-port KVM over IP switches to the DS Series data center management product family designed to help IT administrators more easily manage dense racks of servers. The DSR8035 KVM over IP switch is the industry’s first high density appliance for up to 8 digital users; the DSR2035 KVM over IP switch allows up to 2 digital users. Industry’s quest for more simplified cable management is answered by these 32-port appliances by reducing the number of switches needed to manage large quantities of servers.

Both new 32-port appliances offer virtual media capabilities first introduced by Avocent in May when managed by DSView 3 software. Remote virtual media gives administrators the ability to perform file transfers, application and OS patches, and diagnostic testing from a CD by mapping local removable media or a mass storage device to a remote server. Local or at-the-rack virtual media can be performed without the use of software.

These switches also feature two network interfaces for failover redundancy and enable users to remotely access and manage servers with either on-board web interface or with management software. The on-board web interface allows users to access target devices connected to the specific 32-port switch by simply opening a Web browser and typing in an IP address to access and launch KVM sessions. With DSView 3 management software users can manage all data center devices through a single interface, adding more security, event notifications and audit logs, as well as virtual media.

“The Avocent family of solutions protects the investment IT managers make in their infrastructure because it is a flexible and scalable system that grows with you, no matter the size of your company,” said Dave Perry, executive vice president of global sales. “Avocent innovations continue to lead the future of access and control of data, no matter where it is housed.”

Other features of the DSR2035 and DSR8035 32-port path KVM over IP switches include five USB 2.0 ports for easy access to keyboard and mouse as well as CD-ROMs and mass storage devices, configurable authentication at local ports for security, BIOS-level control of all connected servers and serial-based devices, and external modem support.

The DS Series family of data center management solutions includes 1- to 32-port KVM over IP switches, CCM console management appliance for serial devices, power control devices, and software to manage it all through a single interface.
