Hamilton is Broadway at its finest, and Disney’s 4K presentation, with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, captures the original cast at the top of its game. It is more than worthy of this elaborate collector’s edition. Classy tchotchkes aside, the disc belongs on our shelf, ready whenever we want to revisit those history infused beats without streaming compression, when the internet goes down, or should we ever allow our Disney+ subscription to lapse.

Obsession (Universal Pictures Home Entertainment)
Creepy, funny, and shocking in that talk back to the television kind of way, Obsession is one of the cleverest horror movies in years. This low budget treasure delivers near flawless audio and video in service of its cautionary tale, while commentary from writer, director, and editor Curry Barker and an above average behind the scenes featurette make it well worth revisiting.

The Patriot (Sony)
Roland Emmerich’s thrilling, fictionalized Revolutionary War adventure is pure home theater demo material in its latest refresh, with colorful, bayonet sharp Dolby Vision imagery and explosive Dolby Atmos sound for both the theatrical and extended cuts, each presented on a separate 100GB disc. Add a handsome new SteelBook case and a generous collection of ported extras, and this release becomes essential viewing.

Fire and Ice (Blue Underground/MVD)
Ralph Bakshi and Frank Frazetta’s once in a lifetime collaboration produced this gorgeous animated spectacle, lovingly restored and enhanced by Blue Underground with a radiant color palette and newly remixed immersive audio. The release is available exclusively in a SteelBook featuring unobstructed poster artwork on the front and original cel art on the back.

Fight Club (Fox/Disney/Sony)
Among the most anticipated 4K remasters, Fight Club arrives with a new color grade and painstakingly applied high dynamic range that reveal the truth about Tyler Durden as never before. Sound designer Ren Klyce also returned to the original elements for a cleanup and EQ pass, adjusting dialogue levels for modern ears. All of Jack’s extras from the Blu ray era remain intact on Disc Two.

Ben-Hur (Warner)
One of the greatest screen epics of all time does not disappoint in Ultra HD, receiving one of the finest restorations yet undertaken. A new 8K scan and meticulous shot by shot adjustments give Charlton Heston’s noble Judah Ben Hur new life for a new audience. It is bold and breathtaking, and that is before the iconic chariot race after the intermission. The three disc presentation ensures a high bitrate while leaving ample room for bonus content.

Perfect Blue (GKIDS/Shout! Factory/Radial Entertainment)
Director Satoshi Kon pushed the anime art form in a sophisticated new direction with Perfect Blue, a dark psychological thriller about real people confronting fame, obsession, stalking, murder, and more. The animation rises to the challenge, with exquisitely lifelike characters and backgrounds, while the powerful 5.1 mix could work just as effectively in live action. This three disc SteelBook does not skimp on extras, either.

Steven Spielberg: The Spotlight Collection (Universal Pictures Home Entertainment)
Including a set with this many movies almost feels like an unfair advantage, but hell, it is my list. Spanning eight films and three decades, this collection brings together Steven Spielberg’s incomparable career in absolutely gorgeous metal packaging. From sharks to dinosaurs to aliens to even more aliens, these are simply some of the greatest movies ever made, presented in what will likely remain their definitive editions.

Jackie Chan’s Breakout Hits! (Arrow Films)
Well, what is good for Steven is good for Jackie. In its uniquely comprehensive and uncompromising fashion, Arrow has assembled the six action packed films that transformed Mr. Chan from “that funny martial arts guy with the cult following” into a bona fide global superstar. Each movie arrives in multiple cuts, newly restored from the original negatives, while the lavish box contains enough supplements to keep fans occupied for weeks.
