Toshiba Adds NVIDIA SLI Technology to Elite Line of High-Definition, Gaming Laptops

Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced the addition of NVIDIA SLI™ technology to its elite Satellite X205 gaming notebook series with an HD DVD drive designed for a mobile gaming and high-definition entertainment experience.

The new Satellite X205 gaming notebooks consist of two models that are available at retail–the Satellite X205-SLI1 and the Satellite X205-SLI3. Both models feature dual NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processing units (GPUs) with combined 512MB of dedicated video RAM(1) and are compatible with Microsoft DirectX 10, ensuring that gamers can take full advantage of the cutting-edge graphics technology that are available within today’s ultra-realistic gaming titles. Pricing for the Satellite X205-SLI gaming notebook starts at $1,999.99.

In support of the Satellite X205-SLI launch, Toshiba plans to host a “Gears of War” tournament during this year’s DigitalLife tradeshow in New York at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center Booth (#621) later this week.

“Last year, Toshiba launched their gaming notebook lineup with NVIDIA GPUs, evolving the notebook gaming experience with a unique blend of sheer performance, practical versatility, and elegant style,” said Rene Haas, general manager of Notebook GPUs at NVIDIA. “Toshiba’s addition of NVIDIA SLI technology to their gaming notebooks further demonstrates their commitment to delivering the ultimate entertainment experience to gamers on the go.”

As part of Toshiba’s commitment to outfitting all of its consumer notebooks with HD DVD technology, the Satellite X205-SLI notebooks features an HD DVD drive as part of its standard configuration. Toshiba’s new gaming notebook now delivers the ultimate in high-definition entertainment, providing gamers with the ability to take their favorite HD movies on the road to their next marathon LAN party session. To complete the high definition experience, the Satellite X205-SLI incorporates a high-definition, 17-inch diagonal widescreen TruBrite display for a crisp, clear display and optimal viewing capacity.

Also, the Satellite X205-SLI3 includes a USB external HDTV tuner for playing live HDTV from an antenna or cable or satellite set-top box. The new Satellite X205-SLI notebooks feature an HDMI output port for connecting to an HDTV, a S/P DIF output port for 5.1 surround sound stereo and Bluetooth v.2.0+EDR technology compatible with wireless gaming controls and other accessories.

“Over the past few years, we have seen an influx of gaming machines that not only up the ante in graphical prowess, but have become a staple of the gamer’s digital lifestyle and act as their entertainment hub,” said Ben Bajarin, analyst, consumer technology and digital media, Creative Strategies. “By combining NVIDIA SLI technology, HD DVD technology and an HDTV tuner into one singular solution, Toshiba is positioning itself as a true innovator in today’s digital convergence market.”

“The Satellite X205 gaming notebooks with NVIDIA’s SLI technology is the continuation of Toshiba’s commitment to bring gamers the ‘latest-and-greatest’ in gaming hardware,” said Jeff Barney, vice president of marketing, Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. “With an immense array of multimedia ports, dual hard drives, HD DVD drive as well as sub two-thousand price point, the Satellite X205 notebooks with SLI technology provides an elite gaming and high-definition experience.”
