THIEL President and co-Founder Wins Prestigious Award

March 17th, 2008 (Lexington, KY) — U.S. loudspeaker company THIEL Audio (www.thielaudio.com), has announced that the Bastiat Society (www.bastiatsociety.com), a non profit foundation for spreading free market ideas among business people, has awarded their first-ever Bastiat in Business Award to Kathy Gornik, President and co-Founder of THIEL Audio, manufacturer of high performance loudspeakers based in Lexington, Kentucky. Additionally, Mr. Paul Atkins, Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC, will receive the Bastiat in Public Policy Award.

The Bastiat Society, based in Charleston, South Carolina, is named after the French economist, Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850), one of the all-time great spokesmen for classical liberalism–famous for his ability to translate complex economic ideas into language anyone could understand. The mission of the Bastiat Society is to advance awareness among business people that the world gets better for rich and poor alike wherever the power of free markets is unleashed. Commerce is the engine of human progress.

Kathy Gornik of Lexington, KY is the first ever recipient of the Bastiat in Business Award, and she will be honored at a reception in Charleston, South Carolina on Saturday, April 5th, 2008. Gornik is president and co-owner of THIEL Audio, a world renowned high performance loudspeaker manufacturer selling products in America as well as 30 countries worldwide. Gornik is also chairman of the Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy Solutions (www.bipps.org), a free market think tank that is committed to increasing liberty, prosperity, governmental accountability and transparency in Kentucky as well as reducing regulations, taxes and other hindrances to liberty and prosperity. Additionally, as a long term board member and past chairman of the board of the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association), a 2,200 company member trade association, Gornik promoted and defended the principles of limited government and free trade through her tireless work at CEA (www.ce.org). “I am deeply honored to be recognized by the Bastiat Society for my efforts to promote economic liberty as the basis for a peaceful and prosperous world,” said Gornik. “I am also quite pleased that the Bastiat Society wishes to support and educate the business community, recognizing the incredible work they do to make our world a better place. Indeed, the Bastiat Society is a powerful antidote to misconceptions and negativity attributed to entrepreneurial and business activity.”

The Bastiat in Business Award is being presented to Gornik in recognition of her distinguished effort to promote free market ideas in the course of her professional life. The Bastiat Awards are given in four areas: Public Policy, Culture, Academics, and Business. The awards will be presented at a gala dinner on Saturday, April 5, 2008, in Charleston, South Carolina during Reason Weekend 2008.
