The high-end television market is no longer a two-brand conversation. At CES 2026, TCL made it clear it is competing directly with Samsung, LG, Sony, and Hisense for buyers seeking the highest possible image quality—without price being the primary constraint.
TCL’s X11L Series SQD-Mini LED TV, unveiled at CES 2026, is positioned as a flagship-class display aimed directly at the high end of the TV market. Designed to compete with OLED and ultra-premium Mini-LED models, the X11L combines claimed 100% BT.2020 color coverage, up to 20,000 local dimming zones, and peak brightness reaching 10,000 nits—specifications that put it firmly in reference-class territory.

The X11L is built around TCL’s CSOT WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel, featuring wide viewing angles, high native contrast, and an anti-reflective layer for improved performance in bright rooms. TCL’s new Deep Color System, which integrates Super Quantum Dots, an UltraColor filter, and an advanced color-purity algorithm, is designed to deliver more consistent and accurate color across the full brightness range. Contrast and HDR performance are supported by an enhanced Halo Control System with a new 26-bit backlight controller and minimized optical distance, while image processing is handled by TCL’s TSR AI Processor.
Connectivity and features align with the TV’s premium positioning, including Dolby Vision 2.0 Max, four HDMI 2.1 ports, and Xbox Game Pass streaming without a console. Audio is provided by Audio by Bang & Olufsen, with optional expansion into a wireless Dolby Atmos home theater system using FlexConnect speakers and a wireless subwoofer. Smart functionality is powered by Google TV with Gemini integration, enabling conversational voice control alongside everyday conveniences such as a backlit remote, hands-free voice control, and Sleep Sounds mode.
Below, we break down each key feature in more detail and share early show-floor impressions from CES.
SQD-Mini LED: TCL’s Next Step Beyond Conventional Mini-LED
At the core of the X11L is TCL’s new SQD-Mini LED display architecture. Unlike traditional QD-Mini LED designs, SQD-Mini LED combines Super Quantum Dots with a new CSOT UltraColor Filter and an Advanced Color Purity Algorithm. TCL says this system improves color consistency while reducing artifacts such as color crosstalk and blooming.
The company claims the result is 100% BT.2020 color coverage, a benchmark typically associated with reference-level displays, while maintaining high brightness and deep black levels expected from Mini-LED technology.

Halo Control, Dimming Density, and Peak Brightness Claims
The X11L introduces an enhanced Halo Control System, paired with up to 20,000 discrete dimming zones—more than three times the count found in TCL’s premium QM9K models. TCL is also claiming up to 10,000 nits of peak brightness, targeting maximum HDR impact with bright specular highlights and detailed shadow performance.
According to TCL, these specifications are designed to reduce blooming while preserving contrast in both bright and dark viewing environments, an area where Mini-LED TVs traditionally face trade-offs compared to OLED.
CSOT WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel and Optical Improvements
The X11L uses TCL’s CSOT WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel, which combines high static contrast (up to 7,000:1) with a wide viewing angle design. The panel incorporates an anti-reflective layer and TCL’s ZeroBorder structure, minimizing visible black matrix edges when viewed at normal seating distances.
This panel technology underpins TCL’s effort to deliver both brightness and viewing-angle stability—two areas where premium LCD televisions often struggle relative to OLED competitors.

AI Processing and Backlight Control
TCL pairs the X11L’s hardware with a new 26-bit backlight controller and its updated TSR AI Processor. The system applies AI-based processing to color accuracy, contrast, motion handling, clarity, and upscaling.
The goal, according to TCL, is tighter synchronization between the backlight and image processing pipeline, resulting in more precise local dimming behavior and improved shadow detail without crushing blacks.

Google TV with Gemini Integration
The X11L runs Google TV, enhanced with Gemini for Google TV, enabling conversational voice interaction. Users can search for content, get recommendations, and perform basic tasks through natural language queries.
TCL notes that Gemini’s TV experience is optimized for large-screen interaction and will roll out in supported regions and languages over time.
Audio by Bang & Olufsen and Modular Expansion

Audio duties are handled by Audio by Bang & Olufsen, tuned for clearer dialogue, balanced midrange, and improved soundstage. TCL is also introducing an expandable wireless audio ecosystem, allowing users to add a wireless subwoofer and optional Dolby Atmos FlexConnect speakers for rear, side, or wide channels.
This modular approach allows buyers to scale their audio setup without committing to a full soundbar or receiver-based system at purchase.
Ultra-Thin Industrial Design and Art Mode
Despite its hardware density, the X11L features an ultra-thin cabinet measuring just 0.8 inches deep with a flat rear panel designed for flush wall mounting. TCL includes Art Mode and Art Gallery features, positioning the TV as both a display and a decorative element when not in use.
The Bottom Line
With the X11L, TCL is no longer positioning itself as a premium alternative—it’s positioning itself as a direct competitor for buyers chasing reference-level image quality, regardless of price. The combination of extreme brightness, dense local dimming, and a clear push toward full BT.2020 color coverage places the X11L squarely in the same conversation as flagship OLED, QD-OLED, and high-end Mini-LED models from Samsung, LG, Sony, and Hisense.
At the same time, CES 2026 makes it clear that the next phase of the premium TV battle is already forming. Emerging Micro RGB LED TV display technologies—which promise higher color volume are looming on the horizon as the potential long-term successor to today’s Mini-LED and OLED approaches. However, TCL is positioning the X11L as its 2026 flagship ahead of its own RGB Mini LED TVs to follow this year.
The TCL X11L pushes the limits of Mini LED technology to its extreme. On paper, the X11L will offer some of the highest specifications of any TV coming out in 2026, including OLED-challenging black levels, extreme HDR brightness, and highly accurate color.
