Sony’s best-ever noise-cancelling headphones

Sony Electronics today announced the MDR-1000X premium wireless over-ear headphones with industry leading noise cancellation performance, offering the most responsive cancellation of ambient sound frequency range. The $400 MDR-1000X is the new flagship of Sony’s noise cancelling headphones lineup. New features include an upgraded filtering process, optimized dual noise sensor technology, and newly developed ear pads. In addition, a personal NC optimizer tailors the noise cancelling performance for the individual ears. The headphones analyze the shape of their head and their wearing style (such as hair style and wearing glasses or not), providing a customized noise-cancelling experience. This personalized listening experience is realized by the newly developed SENSE ENGINE.

SENSE ENGINE is an integrated technology of Sony’s unique audio signal processing and analyzing techniques. This technology provides an individualized experience for every single sound, including music and ambient sound, tailored to each user’s preferences.

The MDR-1000X supports Hi-Res Audio playback with a wired connection so listeners can hear every detail, just as the artist intended. Sony’s S-Master HX audio amplifier also supports Hi-Res to maintain the purity of the original signals for highly faithful sound reproduction. And for the best possible wireless performance, Sony’s exclusive LDAC technology delivers audio at three times higher quality than conventional Bluetooth streaming. When listening to compressed digital music (MP3, ACC, ATRAC, and WMA) the MDR-1000X are Sony’s first headphones with the DSEE HX built-in to upscale compressed music from any source to near Hi-Res Audio sound quality, even in wireless mode.

Sony claims up to 20-hour battery life in wireless mode with noise cancelling on. Designed with the style conscious traveler in mind, they look as good as they feel. With a swivel and folding design, they can quickly be stowed away in a carry-on bag ready to jet off to the next destination.

“Quick Attention” mode assures listeners will not miss a word that is spoken while enjoying music or a movie. Instantly activated by placing a hand on the side of the headphone shell, it allows natural sound to come through. Now travelers no longer have to remove their headphones to hear announcements or the flight attendant asking for their drink order. “Ambient Sound Mode” changes the sound settings so that consumers hear the ambient sounds around them, enabling them to be aware of announcementMDR-1000Xs or discussions with colleagues, while still enjoying their music. These unique listening experiences are also realized by SENSE ENGINE.

The Sony MDR-1000X Wireless Headphones are priced at $399.99 MSRP. Presales start today. They will be available in October, 2016 and will be sold at Amazon, B&H Photo-Video, and most Best Buy and InMotion Entertainment locations, as well as other selected Sony Authorized Dealers. Available in two colors, black or gray-beige, the headphones come with a durable synthetic-leather carrying case, audio and power cables, and an adapter for airplane use.
