The first ever 8 megapixel Cybershot camera phone has now been launched on O2 in the UK, the new Sony Ericsson C905 is the manufacturers flagship model and offers the very latest in technology and features from the camera focussed Cybershot range.
The Sony C905 is to get some unwelcome company from competing manufacturers as the first batch of 8 megapixel camera phones are released onto the UK markets, in particular the LG KC910 Renoir and Samsung M8800 Pixon models.
The Sony Ericsson C905 Cybershot phone offers a groundbraking 8.1 mega pixel camera which is a genuine alternative to a digital camera. The camera includes top-end features including a Xenon flash, Auto focus face detection and image stabiliser to name just a few. Users can make videos of their friends and family with the video recording feature. It even has a video stabiliser and a video light. When users have finished taking pictures and videos they can then upload them quickly to their blog for everyone to see.
The C905 has a Wi-Fi antenna and Sony is also bigging up its ability to automatically network with other components – such as a PlayStation 3, Bravia TV or Vaio laptop – using the DLNA standard. DLNA – or Digital Living Network Alliance – is a set of interoperability protocols designed to ensure various electronic devices can easily network with each other without complicated setting up or servers. Its backers include consumer electronics giants such as Sony, Philips and Toshiba as well as mobile phone companies like Nokia, LG, Motorola and – obviously- Sony Ericsson.
The media player comes with an FM Radio, TrackID, Album Art and Play Now, to make the music experience much smoother. The Sony Ericsson C905 also comes complete with a range of in-built games and is Java enabled so users can play games to their hearts content on those long commutes or nights in.
For the internet user the Sony C905 an Access NetFront Web Browser, WAP 1.2.1, WAP 2.0 XHTML and Web Feeds, so owners of this phone will never be without the internet. The Sony Ericsson C905 is a super-sleek looking phone that comes in a variety of colours; Night Black, Ice Silver and Copper Gold, the first of these being the black edition. A contemporary phone with all the features needed and more.
The C905 is the first Cyber-shot to be equipped with assisted GPS which is more responsive than the lugubrious GPS on the first Nokia N95 and the Sony Ericsson W760i. Like the recently released iPhone 3G, the Sony Ericsson C905 will also support the geo-tagging of photos out of the box.
All of this technology has been packed into a casing measuring just 104 x 49 x 18mm which is more than in-line with other models currently available and weighing in at 136g is also not too much for a phone of this stature.
There’s no doubting the design though, as the keypad, brushed lens cover and smooth, rounded edges of the casing all look sleek and in keeping with a high-end mobile. The release of the C905 has not come soon enough, as this is one of the most exciting phones Sony Ericsson have launched for some time.
Although initially released on O2 pay monthly contract tariffs the C905 is expected to be picked up by further UK network operators and retailers over the next few days, the Sony C905 will also be made available as a SIM Free handset aswell as on the Pay As You Go payment scheme.
