Sony BMG Music Entertainment Announces Support for Blu-ray Format

SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES
SUPPORT FOR BLU-RAY FORMAT

SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT today announced support for Blu-ray Disc, the next generation high definition optical media format. Blu-ray offers entertainment consumers a wide range of attractive options, including dramatically enhanced visual and audio quality, surround sound, and advanced interactivity. SONY BMG’s initial slate of Blu-ray titles will be announced during the course of 2006.

“Blu-ray is the future of home entertainment, and the perfect way to bring fans all of the excitement of live performance,” commented Thomas Hesse, President, Global Digital Business, SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. “In addition to high resolution images and sound, it offers tremendous flexibility in how they experience entertainment content — from internet connectivity to the seamless integration of bonus features. We look forward to taking advantage of this new format’s range of possibilities as we provide our artists with new ways to connect with their fans.”

In its catalogue, SONY BMG already owns over thirty projects in high definition, including a wide range of live concerts and music videos from artists such as Usher, Destiny’s Child, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, and The Dave Matthews Band.

Content producers supporting Blu-ray include: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Sony Computer Entertainment America, SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Electronic Arts, Lion’s Gate Films, Paramount Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Vivendi Universal Games and Warner Home Entertainment.
