Meridian Wins Best of CES for High End Audio

LAS VEGAS, NV, January 12, 2004 — TechTV today announced that Meridian Audio Limited was awarded the Best in High End Audio award at TechTV’s ‘Best of CES’ for its G68 Surround Sound Processor.

The G68 Surround Controller from Meridian Audio is a unique, modular, and upgradeable THX Ultra2 component serving as a digital-and-analog A/V surround preamp-processor with RDS/RDBS tuner. It is also one of the first Dolby Pro Logic IIx processors on the market, and provides a variety of multichannel inputs including two 6-channel digital inputs, which accept Meridian MHR Smart Link signals from compatible Meridian disc players. By upsampling these signals, the G68 offers an improvement in sound quality from movie and music multichannel recordings. Numerous stereo digital and analog inputs are also present for audio and A/V sources, and balanced-out analog options are available. Flexible video configurations can include broadcast-grade switching incorporating multiple S- and component-video inputs and outputs. Its proprietary Meridian DSP room-correction system counteracts room resonances for outstanding real-world sound, eliminating “muddiness” and dramatically improving stereo and surround imaging.

TechTV, an established authority on the hottest new products and technology, chose the best and brightest from more than 5,000 new products making their debut at the 2004 International CES.

The TechTV appointed panel of technology journalists selected winners in each category according to their innovative appeal, usability, usefulness, and value. In addition to the 10 category winners, a single product was honored as Best of Show.

“Our judges were really impressed with this year’s submissions and the level of innovation and design,” commented Andrew Hawn, TechTV’s product lab director, and coordinator of the contest. “Each year the competition seems to get tougher and tougher, but we know consumers will really love these 10 new products.”

The winners were announced on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at an awards ceremony that took place in the Grand Lobby at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where the show is taking place. CES attendees, show finalists, TechTV staff and talent, judges and a host of media outlets gathered at the event to witness the unveiling of this year’s finalists and winners.
