MartinLogan Theos Electrostatic Loudspeaker

MartinLogan today announced the Theos hand-built electrostatic loudspeaker, which offers an advanced combination of design and sonic technologies descended from MartinLogan's renowned CLX loudspeaker. Theos features advanced XStat electrostatic technology and an 8-inch aluminum cone woofer seamlessly blended with a Vojtko crossover to deliver the highest standards of transparency, precision and efficiency.

Sharing with its PoweredForce counterpart Ethos, the 9.2-inch wide by 44-inch tall XStat electrostatic transducer addresses the specific mechanical engineering requirements necessary for this unique electrostatic panel design to achieve MartinLogan's distinct 30-degree controlled dispersion pattern. To accomplish this MartinLogan engineers reduced the gauge thickness of Theos's steel stators, which not only achieves the desired arc, but also drastically increases the visual transparency of the panel. The result is stunning visual transparency and an electrostatic panel that essentially vanishes when one is listening.

Housed within an aluminum AirFrame, the Theos' XStat transducer utilizes radical Vacuum Bonding and MicroPerf technology to provide the highest levels of efficiency and precision available from a compact electrostatic panel. Like all MartinLogan's electrostats, the Theos' dipole transducer radiates sound with equal intensity from the front and back to minimize acoustically destructive sonic reflections and produce incredible detail, clarity, and depth of sound.

Theos features a fully passive woofer in a bass reflex design and custom bi-wire capable binding posts giving audio enthusiasts the highest level of flexibility in amplifier selection and connectivity–from single wired solid state systems to vertical or horizontal bi-amplified tube installations. Theos' crossover features audiophile grade components and construction techniques to assure the most precise signal path possible. The resulting precision crossover flawlessly preserves every sonic subtlety while effortlessly handing the broadest range of dynamics contained within even the most demanding sonic source.

The Theos' state-of-the-art features include:

  • CLS XStat electrostatic transducer
  • Ultra rigid AirFrame
  • Fully passive design
  • 8-inch aluminum cone woofer in a bass reflex design
  • Precision built Vojtko crossover network boasting advanced ML topology
  • Custom bi-wire toolless binding posts
  • Custom ETC spikes

Price and Availabililty
In the US, the Theos will be available exclusively at MartinLogan's exclusive group of Reserve dealers. Initially the speaker will be offered in 3 hand-rubbed real-wood finishes including black ash, dark cherry, and new for 2010, zebrawood. Additional finishes will be made available at a later date.
